Publisher's Summary

She's the girl next door. He's the guy who's loved her from afar.
They're in for an unexpected tumble into love.

She'll juggle your balls.
For Stella Allesandro, chaos is good. She's a rising star at a leading sports publicity firm. She's known throughout the industry as the jock whisperer - the one who can tame the baddest of the bad boys in professional sports without losing her signature smile.

But Cal Hartshorn is an entirely different kind of chaos.
He'll fix your broken heart.
This former Army Ranger and now-famous cardiothoracic surgeon fails at nothing...except talking to a woman he's adored from afar. Whether on the battlefield or operating room, he's exacting, precise, and efficient, but all of that crumbles when Stella is in sight.

Cal always knows - and gets - what he wants, and now he wants all of her. His forever girl.
But Stella isn't convinced she's anyone's forever.

A FLIRTY, FUN, FEEL-GOOD ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LISTEN

This book proved that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me!! Nope, I don’t need fixing from my bad boy ways.. from my alpha addictions.. from my fangirling over rowdy randy rock gods or drooling over dominant billionaires. Nope, instead Kate Canterbary gave me Cal - a shy, sweet, unassuming 42 yr old Cardiac Surgeon with a tender heart and who blushes.. and I fictionally fell in love. Despite his age, Cal has a sweet boyish obsession with a woman who runs the same track as him and, for the past eight months, he’s longed and dreamed from afar.

However, that all changes the morning Fate finally decides enough is enough and intervenes.. then running is replaced by flustered first words to each other, apologies, blushes and tentative steps towards more. Unfortunately, feisty Sport Publicist Stella has had her heart damaged by boyfriends one too many times before - so now the 35 yr old only does casual occasional no strings sex with three not-boyfriends. But, when Cal crashes into her life, the impact on both their lives will be monumental, because Cal is perfect for Stella.. even if she can’t see it.. and it’s going to take a wee bit of time, a few hiccups along the way and a broken heart before Stella finally truly gets it.

This book was great - there’s humor, heart and heat.. and a solid wall around Stella’s heart to dismantle.. and who better to fix it than the dishy heart doctor whose bumbling ramblings on their first meet included a marriage proposal! Your heart melts as you cheer him on his quest to penetrate and heal Stella’s sweet but hardened heart. You’re shocked and deliciously happy when you hear this good man has a wicked dirty side too. And your heart bleeds for him when insecurities and unfinished business has him doing the unthinkable. But above all, it’s the stellar performances of Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke (deep breath and sigh.. his voice gets me every time) because they were the perfect fit to bring this story to life, they gave each and every character their own individual voice and brought the light, the laughs, the lust and the love that made this, for me, a solid 5 star listen. And, when this dual POV drama-light love story’s Epilogue finally ended a really enjoyable and entertaining listen, there’s really only one thing left to say:

Worth a credit? Yes definitely.

Before Girl

This was a first for me by this author.
I picked it because of Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose being the narrators.
I love their narration they complement each other well.

The story is pretty good Stella likes her life the way it is so when she latterly falls at the man’s feet she doesn’t really know what to do with him. But he sure has ideas of what to do with her. ;)

I liked Cal a whole lot. He might be a fancy doctor but he still doesn’t know how to be smooth around the ladies and it has taken him a lot longer to approach Stella so when they actually do meet he puts it all out there.

I like the friendship they develop and the chemistry isn’t forced it felt very organic. I would check out this author again, I will most definitely be listening to these narrators again.

Stalker MD

First he stalks, then he hurts - Dr. Cal was not a romantic hero. Cal supposedly fell in love with Stella at first sight, but he was only obsessed with her curvy body, which he liked to bruise and batter. Not erotic, not romantic, not entertaining. DNF...

Super Slow!

So 5 hours in and there has still been no heat, no passion, no anything. This book had potential the 1st 2 hours in, but now it's just dragging... This takes slow burn to a new level, almost on the verge of no burn...

I like a bit more romance ...

The male character tends to objectify the woman a bit too much for me. The performance was very good.

#manbrick met his mate! Swoon worthy rom com

I want to preface by saying I love everything by Kate Canterbary and have read Before Girl and love it! I also want to say how much I love this audiobook and think that Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose were such great casting for Cal and Stella. Jason really got his growlly down and how much he wants Stella but tried to play nice because she has commitment issues due to past relationships. Virginia is Stella and all her take charge attitude and vulnerability. How she tried to order her life because she is a publicist and is always fighting fire for her clients. Their chemistry is hot AF.

I took a star from the performance because Audible did not do a good job of continuity and making sure that last name were pronounced correctly. Since I have already owned all her previous books and the character is recurring I expect them to get it right or be consistent. If you have never read Before Girl this audio is beautifully done and will make your heart swell and squeeze your heartstring.

Where is the story?

Wanting to have sex is all that is talked about. I prefer a story with a build up. I’m hoping someone will take notice that the books with a storyline that builds up to sex are the best sellers. Please, someone notice.
Hoping to return this.

Story falls flat for me

I couldn't get into the characters at all. Jason Clarke's sexy narration was the only redeeming value.

New Favourite Narrators with these 2!

I really enjoyed listening to Before Girl - I've listened to and enjoyed the performance of Virginia Rose before, but this was my first Jason Clarke. Yep - I'm going to be searching for other audiobooks to listen to that he narrates, he was amazing.

Cal and Stella - otherwise known as the man-brick and sweet thing, made for a fun read as they got to know each other and tried to navigate between the different expectations they both had in regards to a relationship/non-relationship.

Cal, an ex-army ranger, now surgeon, had SO MANY feelings for Stella. I have to say that initially I thought he was a little over the top with his obsessive/slightly stalkerish ways with Stella, but he definitely grew on me throughout the story.

Stella is a strong, independent woman, with a job she excels at. It's a time consuming job, and she has convinced herself the lifestyle she has grown accustomed to is all that she needs. She doesn't need a relationship, she's anti-commitment, she has non-dates when needed to meet her needs. AND THEN Cal bowls her over when she's least expecting it, turning her carefully structured life upside down.

Of course there was a little bit of angst, but overall this was a fun read. Stella's family added humour to the story as well, her Mum and Dad were hilarious.
