Publisher's Summary
The Windy City isn't quite ready for Phoebe Somerville - the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars' head coach Dan Celebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Celebow is everything Phoebe abhors. And the sexy new boss is everything Dan despises - a meddling bimbo who doesn't know a pigskin from a pitcher's mound.
So why is he drawn to the shameless sexpot like a heat-seeking missile? And why does the coach's good ol' boy charm leave cosmopolitan Phoebe feeling awkward, tongue-tied...and ready to fight?
The sexy, heartwarming, and hilarious "prequel" to New York Times best-selling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ This Heart of Mine - her sensational best-selling blockbuster - It Had to Be You is an enchanting story of two stubborn people who believe in playing for keeps.

Cute, funny, and a lot of sass
BOOKIN IT BABES Book club July 2020 pick
Cute, funny, with a lot sass!!
This book was about a woman named Phoebe who inherits a football team called the Chicago stars. In order to keep her inheritance she has to make ,what she feels like, the impossible possible with taking a losing team to the top. She runs into many challenges but with the help of Dan nothing is impossible or is it?!?!? With Dan being just as stubborn as Phoebe their journey to the top is hilarious! Between their bantering I found myself several times laughing a loud! This book also transported me back to the mid 90s with detail in the character’s fashion and walk-mans references.

What a disappointment
I would not recommend this book! I had listened to one or two others by the same author, but this one was a disappointment. No depth to the characters. It seemed to victimize the female in the sex descriptions- over the top! Just a rather shallow story. I wouldn’t choose this author again.

Speechless
What an amazing book! When I started listening to this audiobook I couldn't believe how good the story was, how great the dialogues were and when I continued I realized this is one of the best romance books, if not the best, I have ever heard.
You can tell the author took her time writing this story, it wasn't rushed, it wasn't cliché, you get to know the background story of several of the characters, and you fell in love with them.
I love hearing historical society romances, but from time to time also more updated romance books, but unfortunately most of the romance books these days are the typical hot guy, shy girl, best-sex-ever kind of books, and the stories are short ones with the same kind of plot, and although I still hear some of them as a light distraction, they are not my number one choice, so I wasn't expecting this amazing book, and on sale no less!
My respect to the author, really. I know this book has some heavy topics, as is warned in the description, and it's true it can be too much for some people, specially if they have a similar trauma, but I think the fact that the topic is approached here is a reality of a lot of women, and it helped to give so much depth to the main character that wouldn't have been possible otherwise.
I really loved it, I would give it 10 stars if I could.

It Had to Be You
Phoebe Summerville was stunned when her father left her his NFL football team. They had been estranged for years. Of course, there is a stipulation that she can't keep the team unless the Stars win the AFC Championship. The biggest problem is Phoebe knows absolutely nothing about football. Head Coach Dan Calebow is not happy with his new boss. He feels she is a bimbo and sees his chance for the Super Bowl slipping down the drain. Dan is ready to find a maternal woman to settle down and raise a family with him. So why does his mind keep returning to Phoebe?
This is the first book in the Stars Football series and it's a winner. Phoebe may act like a sexpot, but she is actually a woman who is hiding a secret from her past and is afraid of being hurt again. Dan is coming off a divorce from a powerful woman who likes sex games. He just wants to find a down-to-earth woman and doesn't think Phoebe fits that description.
This audiobook is narrated by Anna Fields who nails it. Her voice is perfect for Phoebe, adding just a touch of vulnerability to her voice.
