"Fantastic narration in Texas time travel tale!"
    Any additional comments?

Faith and the Texas Lawyer by Carra Copelin is a sweet historical romance with plenty of sexual tension, but without all the embarrassing salacious details. The story is basically a classic time-travel romance wherein the modern day heroine finds herself transported back in time to 1900 Galveston, Texas after she puts on a vintage dress she found in a trunk in the attic of an old mansion she recently bought (Faith is from 2016 and in the business of renovating old houses).

Our hero Joe is a lawyer who was recently jilted by his fiancé. To get a fresh start, he moves to Galveston in 1900 after finding a beautiful old house he buys and intends to settle down in. It's not long after Joe moves into his house when he discovers Faith in his attic in one of his old fiancé's dresses.

Faith doesn't necessarily mind being transported back to 1900 except for the fact that it's only a few days before September 8, 1900 - the day when a Category 4 hurricane ripped through Galveston, Texas, killing an estimated 6,000 to 8,000 people. Faith, Joe, and a few of his friends do as much as possible to prepare the mansion and the rest of town for the impending storm and, of course, they share an instant attraction and fall in love in the process. What's different from most of the other time-travel romances out there is that the heroine is very much from modern day America - she's wearing cut off shorts and a tank top underneath that vintage dress she tried on and her cellphone is transported back with her. In fact, her cell phone helps "prove" she is from the future.

I listened to the Audible version of this story narrated by Meghan Kelly. She did an outstanding job, differentiating between male and female voices and changing the tempo in the performance when warranted. Meghan's narration definitely contributed to my enjoyment of this book. I received a copy of this audio in exchange for an unbiased review.

"Where has this author been hiding?"
What made the experience of listening to Faith and the Texas Lawyer the most enjoyable?

I loved the narrator as she puts the excitement of the characters into her voices. She definately added to the experience.

What other book might you compare Faith and the Texas Lawyer to and why?

Hm, maybe Jude Deveroux's A Knight in shining armor. Also, a wonderful time travel book.

Have you listened to any of Meghan Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No I have not.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The house that takes you back in time.

Loved this, highly recommend it ti all that enjoy historical fiction, historical romance or time travel.

"Going back in time has never been so much fun"
    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this audio of time travel, mystery that is filled with just passion that isn’t throw in your face but write in style. You do not feel lost at all knowing just what took place and smiling all the way. If you are waiting to know just what trips the time travel you will find out closer to the end the author isn’t giving much away leaving us and her characters in the dark until she is ready leaving it a mystery for a while. Two people are pulled to the same house both must have it but they live centuries apart. Faith just has to sign the paper work and this house is hers. She goes looking for find out who built it and finds some very interesting information that leads to more questions. With more searching she finds a trunk with clothes inside as she puts one dress on she is taken back in time. She is a little confused to what just happen goes downstairs everything is different but the same. She is so confused when she meets Joseph and he demands to know what she is doing in his home. Just when things start getting interesting for her she is pulled back into her own time. This is the way the story goes through out making it a very entertaining read as we find out more about this home and its history I was pulled into the web the author laid out for me.

I have listened to other audios by this narrator and I still think she does a wonderful job on her characters emotions and their voices. She does have one voice I don’t care too much for but the rest I just love. She really puts a lot of emotion into the audio pulling the reader in. In her normal voice (which is very pleasant) she sounds more like she is reading, you can hear her hesitation but as soon as she gets into her character voices you have a wonderful emotional listen. Her male voices were delightful giving such emotion of angry, confusion and love to her characters. Her female voices are the same just the one I do not care for it sounds too whiny. There are no background noises or any place where the volume changes throughout the story. If a break was taken I could not tell. I found this to be a clear, clean audio that I enjoyed very much. I had no trouble picturing what each character was feeling the narrator puts a lot of feeling into her characters. I was very pleased and found this a fun and at times exciting listen of mystery and romance.

The author really brings the story to light from the here and now to the travel back in time. The storm I had no trouble picturing in my mind as the wind blow pulling me into the danger. I really liked the history of the house and finding the answers to the mystery of who and how it got build. With Faith being pulled back in time will she be able to help fight a storm that took so many lives, will she be able to make them believe she is from the future with information of things that are yet to come that could not only help save important documents but people lives.

I found myself running around my head just as Faith was to work out the mystery of how she keeps going back and forward in time. I kept saying what am I missing only to feel like a fool with all was told. I really liked how their relationship came to be, the pull of the attraction, the chemistry. I had to laugh as Joseph kept demanding to know who she was and what she was doing in his home, along with Faith saying I own this or I will as soon as the papers are signed. It was such fun watching her explain that she was from the future trying to make him believe it was such fun. When the sheriff came knocking I had to laugh at the outcome. I loved how the author blends so well fact and fiction together to make it a very believable read. I loved the corset scene and had to laugh trying to picture myself in her shoes. I was thinking that would be where I drew the line that thing is not getting on my body. The sexual tension was written so beautifully that you are really pull-in. I thought this story was well written giving a very believable listen that pulls the reader in giving a very entertaining read. I really can’t wait for the next one to see if maybe her friend is in it. The characters are such a delight from the house keeper who keeps me chuckling to Joseph best friend. This was a very entertaining read. If you like time travel and a little mystery in your romance you really should give this book a try.

    "This was an okay story."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'd probably add a little more 'umpf' to this story. While it was overall a cute read it was boring at times. I didn't feel like all that much was really going on. Girl buys an old house, travels back and forth through time, ending in the past. The end. There just wasn't much to this one.

Would you be willing to try another book from Carra Copelin? Why or why not?

This was the first story I've listened to or read. So, I'd be willing to try another story.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think this narrator might be growing on me, although this will probably be the last story I listen to by her at least one that I'm given for free. Previously, the narrators 'narration' voice seemed off like she had a cold or something; her voice seemed really scratchy and I found it annoying. I can agree that her character voices are pretty good though.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I can't imagine this story being a movie, so probably not.

I got this book via audiobook boom. This book kept switching from the past to the present with very little to let you know yu were transitioning back and forth. The narration was good but the story did not make me want to keep reading it. Although I did so I could review it. It was a nice love story and I am glad that Faith got what she was looking for.

    Story
    "Fast"
What would have made Faith and the Texas Lawyer better?

If the romance didnt happen so fast. I personally felt it was way to rushed. She transported. They met. They fell in love. End of story.

What could Carra Copelin have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Besides the romance being rushed I thought the story was absolutely wonderful. Me personally I have to have character description. This way I can possibly imagine what they might look like....

How could the performance have been better?

Slow down the quick paced "OMG I love you and you're it for me" romance

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Faith and the Texas Lawyer?

None...each scene was different.. just slow down the romance

    Any additional comments?
