Smart & Funny

This has been a hit and miss series for me, but I enjoyed this story very much. Marie & Matt are very likable characters, both are smart and funny and their relationship is a slow burn. There are check ins with other characters from the previous books which is always a nice touch. I would have enjoyed a little more from Matt’s POV, but overall a decent read.

Stand alone but should read others first

Most stand alone books in series briefly involve or reference previous characters. This book spends 1/2 time on the old characters and there are a lot of them. I felt it detracted from the story because there were so many players who I didn't know and didn't have investment in. The dialogue was prolonged in this way. Wanted more time with the main characters. Should read the other books first

superb!

Marie & Matt's heartfelt story, the news from the rest of the gang, the slow growth & burn, the permanent smile on my face, the anticipation, the truth, the sweetness, the sexiness, the cleverness of this book, the choice of Joy Nash as a narrator... Thank you, Mrs. Reid <3

I NEVER write reviews......

I listen to or read somewhere between six to ten books a month. I always fill in the little stars but never take the time to write a review. I also rarely, RARELY give five star reviews. Those are always for books like Outlander and The Help that draw you in so completely. I gave this book five stars across the board because of it's ability to take me from tears in my eyes to laughing out loud so effortlessly. So freaking funny! I have read several of Ms. Reid's other works and this is certainly my favorite with Beauty and the Mustache a close second. I have not read them in any kind of order-just chosen by which summary struck a chord-so don't feel like you will be totally lost if jump to this one. It is incredibly refreshing to find an intelligent, well written book with a non-formulaic plot....that seems to be harder and harder to do these days in the romance category.....so thank you Ms. Reid! DEFINITELY credit worthy! Just be prepared for your family or coworkers to ask what you are listening to that has you laughing out loud and walking around with a smile on your face!

First Romance Book

This was my first stab at a romance book. The genera in general doesn't interest me. I had a hard time getting past the annoying narrator. I just don't like the sound of her voice or the inflections she projected onto some characters. I would her this author again, but I don't care for the narrator.

Exquisite Torture

Marie and Matt's friendship was so sweet and loving. But man, did Penny Reid make you wait. And then finally... I actually fist pumped in my car. I love how all the relationships get connected and how the men all get along.

Not my favorite from the series

Marie was annoying as HELL. She was annoying and too much on her head. I think what annoyed me the most was the fact that we got to hear every freaking detail about wanting to find love and I just couldn't take all the internal ramblings.

I'm all for a good nerd love story but this was painful. Matt was a decent counterpoint for Marie but I'm glad it's over. I liked getting updates on Janie and Quinn.

Another great story in the "Knitting Series!"

Penny has done it again with "Dating-ish."
I know it describes this book as a stand alone, but, unless you've read the other books in the series, you'll be confused and a little lost when it comes to the other characters and even how they relate to Marie.
We met Fiona and Greg's nextdoor neighbor, Matt, in the Ninja book (#5). He turns out to be the sometimes goofy, but often lovable leading male to Marie's heroine.
Reid scratches deeper than the surface with Marie and a uniquely defined character is discovered along with another great storyline. (They can't all be Janie)
Joy Nash brings back all the characters' accents. Unfortunately, she calls Sandra "Saundra" all through the book and you have to ignore her to be able to get past this error.
I think each book is a must read to get through the series and can't wait to listen to Kat and Dan's story next.

Not the best in the series, but better than most!

I avidly listen to all Penny Reid’s book and this one is not a disappointment. I have to admit it’s not her best in the series, and for me it did lag a bit in the middle. I think this is probably because this book is all about the relationship and the actual plot line was bit weaker than normal so there was not the added interest of that to keep the book flowing. However as this writer on a bad day is still outstanding, and way superior to so many others in this field, I am not about to deduct stars for being slightly less than perfect.

Perfect addition that's beautifully read

So I read this first in tree-book, then e-book and now on audio. On each reading I found different things I'd missed previously

If you've not read this quirky, funny, intelligent book give yourself a shake, go read it now. Though if you've not read the series I can recommend reading in order as each book, despite being a standalone story, has spoilers for the earlier ones.

Go on... go read...now!
