Publisher's Summary

Kate Worthington knows her heart and she knows she will never to marry. Her plan is to travel to India instead - if only to find peace for her restless spirit and to escape the family she abhors. But Kate’s meddlesome mother has other plans. She makes a bargain with Kate: India, yes, but only after Kate has secured - and rejected - three marriage proposals.

Kate journeys to the stately manor of Blackmoore determined to fulfill her end of the bargain sooner rather than later and enlists the help of her dearest childhood friend, Henry Delafield. But when it comes to matters of love, bargains are meaningless and plans are changeable. There on the wild lands of Blackmoore, Kate must face the truth that has kept her heart captive. Will the proposal she is determined to reject actually be the one thing that will set her heart free?

Set in Northern England in 1820, Blackmoore is a regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn how to follow her heart.

    "TORTUROUS AND GRUELING STORY"

I started out with all hope that this would be a good story and listen, but a short way into the story, I already hated Kate. She is such a dreary, emotional, self-centered, person who causes her own sorrow by keeping secrets and lying about them when asked to share them. She is the antithesis of the kind of woman I respect - a strong-minded, cleaver, do-something woman. She is sad almost the whole book through! It was torture to have to listen to her tale of woe. There were only two good parts of the book, when she FINALLY told Henry the "terrible" secret about his mother changing the will, and when she ran away to her aunt's house in London and her aunt told her it was good that she FINALLY took her future into her own hands. This book could have been much shorter if Kate had figured this out much earlier in the book, but she continually LET her family and friends subjugate her and put her in a cage. It was her own fault. Kate would occasionally get angry, but she didn't DO anything about it until the very end of the story. I mean the VERY end! The narrator was a perfect voice for this listless, depressing, sad person. It made me think that both the author and the narrator were this same sort of person who thinks that emotion tops courageousness. I don't like hearing a book that makes me hate the protagonist. I don't think I'll read anymore of Julianne Donaldson's books unless she develops characters with more gumption.

I really really hope you have more books in audible soon. I love this style of writing so much and you do it well. You always get me deep in my heart. I would get all of your books if that were on audible, but I only see 2 :(

    "So incredible sad and beautiful"

This book had me feeling incredibly sad and frustrated (because I couldn't do anything about it) during the time that I listened to it.
I kept waiting for the turning point to stop being so depressed and sad (maybe was PMSing) but I loved every moment of love and affection given... every declaration, every touch or memory... I loved hearing about the sad smiles, about the secrets they shared, about their love. I am still trying not to cry... of sadness or happiness I don't know.
    //Spoiler Alert://
I loved this book, I can "feel" the love they felt for each other, I feel it so strongly... I have never ever felt this way with any other book, not even Pride & Prejudice, because in this book they got to know each other since childhood, they knew everything about themselves, every "dark" past, every fault, every growth they had. They continued loving each other despite everything.
It's just so so so sad they had to wait so long...
I can't overcome that sadness but I am so happy

Wonderfully narrated, but I was constantly mad at the lead character for being so weak! I finished it, still a nice story.

    "Perfect"

This is now my favorite romance novel. I've listened to it twice now and will probably comeback to it many times. It is unpredictable and deep. I love the way the story unfolds going between past and present. I love the imagery and incorporations of the stories of Ichorous, Phaeton, and Faust. I love it all!

"okay story - but depressing to me"
    Any additional comments?

I wanted to like this book, but I did not love the heroine. She brought a lot of her angst upon herself; however, her mother certainly could cause anyone heartburn.
The love story was too drawn out and the atmosphere was too dark.

"Drags along in a never ending circle"
Would you try another book written by Julianne Donaldson or narrated by Cassandra Campbell?

This was my second book, but I do not think I might give her the benefit of the doubt any time soon.

Has Blackmoore put you off other books in this genre?

No, it is one of my favourite genres and not every book can be good.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, very even and level, matching the story in which nothing much happened.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Mainly disbelief at the stupidity of the characters and only surpassed by my own stupidity of listening to the whole.

    Any additional comments?

The main character and probably the author are suffering from a major depression. Not exactly with I expect in a true romance.
