Can't finish. Made me cringe.

The heroine is 18. She says no repeatedly. He forces sex anyway. He loves her immediately. Ugh. I've read a lot of Lisa Kleypas, but couldn't finish this. I don't normally write reviews, but want to help out others who want to avoid rapey fiction. Rosalyn Landor is great, as always.

Just Bad

Let start by saying, I generally enjoy Lisa Kleypas as an author & Rosalyn Landon as a narrator. But this just a terrible story. I did not like any of the characters. I had to stop listening at chapter 5. I just could not force myself to listen any more!

Okay......

I did not like Luke. He was an autocratic, old fashioned (even for that time) man. I did not like the fact that Tasia could not remember if she had killed her cousin UNTIL she was kidnapped and thrown in jail - then all of a sudden her memory comes back to her?! That was a little far-fetched! AND I did not like that she used sexual seduction at the end in order to keep the tiger! How stupid! I ordinarily like author, Lisa Kleypas', writing- but this was far below her usual standards! I don't like that at the end she has a visioning of daughter, Emma, being led astray by her other cousin, evil Nicholas, (whom she had JUST nursed back too health from death)!! Terrible story!!

A peculiar mélange of an irascible lord and mysterious mystic Russian governess

An unfortunate plot replete with too much religion and an unlikable and sometimes brutal lord of the manor. Not Lisa Kleypas’ usually reliable novels.

statutory rape

she's 18, he's 34. he puts aside his long time age appropriate gf for his daughter's governess... and his daughter is 13. he describes her as a child a lot... who he continuously sexualizes.

started off intriguing but got stake real quick.

Slow story, easy to put down

I found the story slow and easy to put down for a while. Rosalyn Landor's narration was good but not enough to keep me interested. I struggled to finish the book.

Wildly inappropriate plot

18 years old and he basically spends the first half of the book forcing himself on her? Why did she have to be 18?

Loved it!

It was a nice listen. A tiger, can't wait to start the second in the series.

Disappointing

I paid full price for this audiobook and regret that I did. I usually buy the entire series of an author at once so I can binge rather than wait for a new installment. The book was supposedly written in 1995. I really didn’t care for any of the characters. I felt nothing for them. Rosalyn Landor did a little below average to her normal performance usually with the Russian accent. I guess I just tired of all the independent women who want their husbands to be their partners in life. It is true that there are some in this world but not nearly as many that you read in books. Living most of my life around the male sex and married to the same man 43 years I have personally never come across one. I wish the Heroes were more realistic.

My least favorite story

I have read quite a few of Lisa’s books. This was my least favorite. This story does not age well.
