Publisher's Summary

Like the classic Beauty and the Beast, this steampunk romance features an unlikely love story.

The Lord of Blackwell Manor, Miles, is plagued by a family curse that changes him into a shape-shifting wolf every month during the full moon.

Lucy, a smart, attractive, and well-respected botanist, travels to Blackwell Manor to take care of her sick cousin, Kate, who is married to Miles' younger brother. For Lucy, the trip is a welcome respite from her work and recent discovery of a breakthrough serum that could eliminate the scourge of vampires from London. But Lucy finds more than she bargained for when she arrives at the Manor.

Miles, who is brash and inhospitable, does not take kindly to visitors. He is still unsettled by the mysterious death of his newlywed wife. And then there's Marie, Miles' sister, who was attacked and murdered just weeks earlier. Miles is horrified to think that he might be to blame for the deaths. And who is the ghost that haunt the halls?

Lucy is convinced that the death of Miles's wife and sister - as well as her cousin's mysterious illness - are tied together, but how? Lady Charlesworth has her eye on inheriting Blackwell Manor for her family. Could her daughter, Candice, or her son, Arthur, have had a hand in the mysterious deaths? The clues make a vampire suspect highly likely. During her investigation, Lucy finds herself caring deeply for Miles, but he fights to keep his distance in order to protect Lucy from his family's secret. And, yet, he feels attracted to the woman who is able to look past the fearsome-looking scar that has marred his handsome face. With no other option, Miles and Lucy must work together if they are to find the answer to the mysteries at the manor.

But that's not all Lucy wants to solve. There's a deeper mystery behind Miles. Can she solve that too? Ultimately, she must decide if she can love the man - beast and all.

Includes bonus novella, Marie's Story.

Wow! This book has everything...and done well!

This audiobook drew me in immediately. Everything about it was interesting, intriguing, adventurous, appealing and unique. I absolutely loved Miles and Lucy. Truly the perfect romance as well as myriads of adventure, mystery and paranormal activity. AND the narration was wonderful, allowing true discerning of who was speaking at any given time. 5 stars for sure -- and hoping for a possible sequel for Daniel and some of the other characters.

Beauty, beast, vampires, shifters and clockwork

This was an enjoyable, thrilling, suspenseful mystery. I’m not one for vampires much (there are a few exceptions, like those that get their blood from the blood bank, their fridge or willing drones), but with all the other well done stuff in this book it was palatable. The story definitely kept my attention to the point I didn’t want to be interrupted (not being interrupted rarely happens to Moms). The only down side was that in places it was a little dark (I did mention vampires didn’t I?). My preference is light and humorous so I didn’t prefer that, but no fault of the author. I will look for other books by her.

What a grand surprise!

With the Audible romance package I was looking forward to listening to new authors and exploring new genres. One of the first I’ve tried is this book, and I’m going to go looking for more books from this author. Not only was it very well written, but the attention to detail, as well as the creativity, truly kept me entertained.

For those who love lots of steamy sex, this book may not be for you. But if you enjoy a simply good love story/mystery/steam punk, then I would highly recommend this to you. In fact, whether or not you’re interested in steam punk I think you would like this story. Personally, I did enjoy the new take on history, with mechanicals, airships and an interesting take on robotics included.

While I am super sensitive when it comes to scary or horror/ bloody scenes in books, I did not find the scenes in this book to be over the top for my taste.

Most likely I will listen to this book again in the future.

Entertaining, sweet romance

I had never tried a "steampunk" story before and found myself pleasantly surprised by this one. The steampunk alternative history approach allowed the heroine to be less of a fainting flower as typically seen in regency romances, and more of a strong, intelligent lady that still gets to benefit from fabulous Victorian fashions! I found this story entertaining and easy to listen to while working around the house and commuting.

more gory than I would like

If she had kept to the man being a warewolf without the vampires and automatons I would have liked it better. I have read this author and am excited when she publishes a new book. I also love anything beauty and the beast. So I gave this one a chance even though I am not into vampires, warewolves, ghosts, automatons, etc. More gore than I felt necessary. More horror than I felt necessary. The reader did well dustinguishing voices though the two main characters and the narrater were gravely. I liked it enough to finish the book, but I will pribably not listen to it again, especially since it was too scary for my kids to hear.

Clean supernatural romance mystery, well narrated

I enjoyed this book in audio. I like this narrator and have listened to a number of her narrations. The story has a smart, strong female lead. Three was a good mystery and some romance. The romance is clean. The steampunk characteristics added to the story but did not overshadow the character development or hinder the pace. There is some suspense and action, but the story really evolves around a mystery and character interactions. I'm glad I took a chance and will look for more from this author.

Captivating story and narrator.

I really enjoyed the mystery and intrigued. The characters were described beautifully and each depicted their feelings perfectly.

I loved the Steampunk element of the story. it added to the overall experience of this alternate reality.
