Couldn't Get Past the First Few Chapters

While the narration is quite good, the book... not so much. I made it a third of the way through, but that's all. Boring. I hope I didn't use a credit up on this one.

Really good plot

I like the plot of the story it was unusual. Many regency romance stories are interesting and amusing, but lack a solid and interesting plot like this one.

The performance was nice. Most regency romance stories have a female main character whereas this series is mostly male and I like that the reader is male to give it the right feeling.

Romance, mystery and intrigue!

The story move at a good pace even though it was a long book. I enjoyed all the characters and the h/h did not disappoint in the sizzle department. When you fall in love of course there is strong attraction and romance, if the scenes were too much for some readers I don’t understand, romance and intimacy is normal and is one special way to say I want you and I love you.

Good! Unique for a historical romance.

Good story. I do find the writing to be elequent but a bit highbrow. (advanced vocabulary). I also find the story a bit too long. I attribute much of the unnecessary time to overly descriptive prose and repetitions. I wasn't thrilled with the FMC's character, as I see a difference between a strong woman and an arrogant one. The author did not. No matter the few negatives, the storyline was original, and intriguing. The romance, while frustrating at times, was very sweet on the MMCs part. We knew he was honorable despite his reputation, and that he always planned to do right by her. That made the falling in love so much more swoonworthy! The story becomes exciting toward the end. But there are a few threads left hastily and unsatisfying closed. I found this rather humorous given the drawn out story telling of the courtship. Ergo, either a detailed epilog would have been welcome or less buildup during the 1st half of the book and more elaborationon the villians and the consequences was needed. Finally, what saves it all is the extraordinary talent of the narrator! HE WAS EXCELLENT!
The book ovetall was above average, especially in comparison to other historical romances on the market. Therefore I can honestly reccommend this book!

Such potential but...

On the surface this was a good read/listen. If this was the first book in the series I had read it would have had a higher rating. Knowing what happens later sours the whole romance.

Very interesting historically and characters fit beautifully into the story. Fast moving unable to stop listening for the next twist.

Loved it!!! story is written to capture the reader's imagination... a movie 🎬 in the telling.

Long and unoriginal

The idea is good but not very original. The writing is OK but there are too many detours. For example: somebody is waiting for an answer or for an important clue or we are on the edge of our seats and the author starts to describe the room, goes into the history of something or one of the characters starts to remember something.
The reasons used by the characters not to clear up miscommunication are bad. "I won't tell her that I want to marry her, to avoid scaring her away. I will, however, follow her everywhere, kiss her without permission and sleep with her."
All this applies, with some minor variations, to all of this author's books that I've read. In fact, from the dozen or so books that I read, the story outline and progression of events are the same, the names and social/temporal context differ slightly. It basically is "you read one, you read them all".
The sex scenes are used to prolong the story, without adding much value. This is especially annoying when they are read as if it's a football match.
In conclusion, the book is OK if you have the time and don't have to pay for it. I also recommend speeding the narration to as fast as you can stand, otherwise it is very, very long.

Deliciously Entertaining!

Another Masterpiece by the unstoppable Stephanie Laurens! I read this Cynster novel last but loved it no less than all the others! I've always enjoyed Helena's character and knew there was a hidden passion to her! Her love story captivated me from start to finish! Simply wonderful! Enthralling, passionate and like a great tennis match, keeps you on the end of your seat until long after the players have left the court!!
