Publisher's summary

As an artist, Callie Quinn relies on inspiration to guide her wandering soul. This summer she accepts a short-term muralist job in her sister's charming town to spend some much-needed time with her family. After meeting her nephew's friend, Brandon, she's eager to draw out his untapped artistic talents - however, it's the boy's straitlaced single father who could use a little color in his life.

Davis Carter may be the town's favorite animal whisperer, but his experience is limited when it comes to understanding his preteen's rebellious behavior. Desperate for a breakthrough, he follows the lead of a free spirit who claims to know the way into his son's closed-off world. Soon, Davis isn't the only one caught up in the hope of a new beginning.

Just as Callie considers trading her unattached existence for a life rich with promise and permanence, an unexpected visit from the past threatens to send her packing once again. Davis and Callie must learn to surrender their fears so they can find a love that will outlast the summer.

Good story

It was a good story but it made me sad. The hateful in laws were a big downer b/c there were so many violation of boundaries & no accountability. The story as a whole was good but it just really wasn't a feelgood novel.

Really Enjoyed This Book!

Where does A New Shade of Summer rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well, it is not my very favorite, but it is pretty high up there on the list. It is probably in the top 10 or 15 of audiobooks that I have listened to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A New Shade of Summer?

I can't give too much away for fear of a spoiler, but it was in a very serious conversation between Callie and Davis toward the end of the book. It was painful and I could feel those emotions so strongly emanating from Davis.

What about Scott Merriman and Kate Turnbull ’s performance did you like?

They both did a very good job with their character voices. I wasn't as fond of the voice of Brandon as done by Kate Turnbull at first, but it did grow on me. And, I did appreciate that she had different voices for the various characters that she had to portray because otherwise it would have been confusing to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I didn't want to listen to it all in one sitting. But after about halfway, I did want to listen to it very often.

Any additional comments?

The Love In Lenox series is so good and I recommend all three of the books. I have listened to the audio books of each one.
