Publisher's summary

You’ve Got Mail meets The Proposal—this romance is one for the books.

Savannah Cade’s dreams are coming true. The Claire Donovan, editor-in-chief of the most successful romance publishing company in the country, has requested to see the manuscript Savannah’s been secretly writing. The only problem: she’s an editor for a different company, and their philosophy is only highbrow works are worth printing and romance should be reserved for the lowest level of Dante’s inferno.

But when Savannah drops her manuscript during a staff meeting and nearly exposes herself to the whole company—including William Pennington, the new boss and son of the romance-despising CEO herself—she has no choice but to hide the manuscript in a hidden room.

When she returns, she’s dismayed to discover that someone has not only been in her hidden nook but has written notes in the margins—quite critical ones. But when Claire’s own reaction turns out to be nearly identical to the scribbled remarks, and worse, Claire announces that Savannah has six weeks to resubmit before she retires, Savannah finds herself forced to seek the help of the shadowy editor after all.

As their notes back and forth start to fill up the pages, however, Savannah finds him not just becoming pivotal to her work but her life. There’s no doubt about it: she’s falling for her mystery editor. If she only knew who he was.

Meet Me in the Margins is a delightfully charming jewel of a book that fans of romantic comedy won’t be able to put down!” — Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author of Under the Southern Sky

Critic reviews

"Ferguson (The Cul-de-Sac War) enchants with this whimsical tale set against the evergreen culture war between literary and commercial fiction . . . An idealistic, competent heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, and delightfully quirky supporting characters bolster this often hilarious send up of the publishing industry, which doubles as a love letter to the power of stories. The is sure to win Ferguson some new fans." (Publishers Weekly)

Sweet and honest

I actually hated that they compared this book to the Proposal or You've got Mail. I don't usually write reviews, but this book was nothing like those, and was sweet and charming and stood on its own two legs. It's full of real and honest moments, and not covered in lady porn to distract from the actual developing relationship. This is a slow grow, full of honesty and two people who compliment each other perfectly.

A Fun Story!

What a fun book this is to listen to!
I loved the secret notes in the ARC room and the playful banter between Will and Savannah.
There are several laugh out loud moments as well as a few serious ones.
The narrator was perfect too!

Worth every penny

I'm pretty picky about the books I buy, and I was worried that this (an unfamiliar author's take on a familiar story) might be a disappointment. Well, I am happy to say this book was worth every penny! Just a delightful read that I blew through in record time. Highly recommend if you like the You've-Got-Mail story line and are looking for something cheerful with a happy ending. Great narration that made me laugh out loud. You're going to love it.

So good

Loved this one. Perfect balance of heartache and hea. The miscommunication was actually believable and quite funny. This is the kind of book to pick you up on a down day and make you smile. I want more books like this to read!!

The narrator was awesome too ❤️

Good, but unsatisfyingly tame

The romance aspect builds 9/10 of the book, and then when they finally get together there's no steam. Found myself skipping through a lot of over description to get to the action and movement of the story. Some questions left unanswered but overall it kept my attention and was an interesting premise.

Couldn't listen to

Writing is really terrible--every sentence filled with excessive amounts of similes. Story-line had possibility but couldn't stomach the writing so quit after 1 hour.

loved it

I loved this book, the part I related to the most was at the end when the Savanna, the main female character says the following:

"How on earth am I meant to be able to manage a website, run a bi-monthly newsletter. Talk daily on Instagram, facebook and tiktok, youtube and twitter. And still have time to actually write books. What are these insane expectations, I blame it on those rejection letters."

It speaks volumes to every indie author doing a majority of the work themselves.

I'm a sucker for lit themed books

It's cute, the characters have genuine chemistry. The story is fairly predictable, but if you read a lot of rom com they usually are. That's not a bad thing.

Easy listening, but...

I was looking for a light fun read, that I found.
However I quickly reaslised there were no twists and turns, what you think when reading the blurb is what happens.
Plus a little ironic... the book is about a woman who needs to rewrite the book she wrote as the main characters met in a done-to-death predictable hallmark manner.
This book had potential but suggest a rewrite so the main characters don't keep meeting in hallmark situations. And an insight into why this stready, wooden Darcy-type leading man is instantly head over heels for the leading lady for no apparent reason may make it more believable.
