Cute Snarky Banter

This was a classic cute romantic comedy. Three years ago, Cameron and Jack met when he came out of being undercover back to the FBI with a case against a big mobster in Chicago. Cameron and Jack had heat until her boss made her drop the case and not tell anyone why. Then they had a different kind of heat, which resulted in Jack saying something that caused him to be sent away to podunk Nebraska.

Now that he's back in Chicago and his career looks like it may be back on track, he get's a call and has to interview a possible witness to a murder. When he hears Cameron's name, he thinks he's being punked.

Soon sparks fly, not only from them snarking at each other, but also from the connection. Cameron will have to trust Jack more than anyone else and also tell him what really happened three years ago.

This was a classic meet/cute like an old Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn film. I really enjoyed it. I thought the banter back and forth was sweet and I also liked the mystery.

I did listen to this on audible, and I realize this book is several years old. But, I would have liked it if more than one person was narrating. If they had at least an man doing the male parts, since it was from multiple POV's. Don't get me wrong. The narrator was fine, but I like it when there are different voices for the different characters when there are multiple POV's.

I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.

A fun romance.

If you are looking for a light romance with a bit of danger, this is it. The book has likable characters and a good build up for love. This isn't a love at first sight kind of book and there is only one sex scene towards the end. What I like was how the main characters came together and all the side characters added a bit of comic relief. The mystery part isn't really a mystery since the readers already know who the bad guy is, but I'm suspecting that if you're interested in this book you're not in it for the mystery. I will read the next book in this series. Narrator does a good job, I have enjoyed her work in the past.

Refreshingly Good Story and Series!

Yes it has some angst, romance, sex, suspense, over the top bad guy characters and lots of comedic interactions but it all enhanced the story! Too many authors rely on exceedingly repetitive angst or on multiple orgasim until you pass out scenes instead of the weaving a story, Julie does not. Her stories are not short but I don't skip forward to get past 3 - 8 minute angst tirades. I definitely recommend this series and this author.

Great story with action and passion

Any additional comments?

Honestly, I just loved this book. It wasn't fanciful drivel, there were high stakes, and there was genuine emotion and not the whole "We kissed once and now I'm going to marry him!" stuff that seems to be so prevalent in this genre. The only thing I felt was unbelievable was how long it took her to come clean. I'm definitely a new fan of the series.

Romance with chemestry!

I really liked the chemestry between Cameron and Jack, and the secondary characters were extremely entertaining and added quite a bit to the listening experience. Overall I enjoyed this 1st book of the series and look forward to listening to more from this author.

Amusing and Suspenseful

While mostly amusing and suspenseful, this romance featuring a U.S. Attorney and a FBI agent had one major flaw in my opinion: joking about sexual assault and domestic violence.

From the first chapter when Cameron "overhears" the murder of a prostitute, she ignores the fact that the victim was being beaten before she was strangled. Why wouldn't a female federal prosecutor call the police when she realized a woman was being assaulted?

Although FBI agent Jack was never actually violent toward Cameron, they kept joking about degrading, violent sexual acts as if two law enforcement professionals would NOT understand the devastating effects of rape and physical assault.

The author is very talented with a wonderfully wicked sense of humor so hopefully she stops joking of BDSM (sexual assault and domestic violence) in future books.
