Good story

I enjoyed it. Abbey was a great character and Kane was amazing. I will definitely keep going with the series.

Ohhhhhh tough girls, bad guys

Ok if you read my reviews you know I love strong women and tough men. This one is packed with both and it’s exciting from the beginning. It’s one of the best tough girl books I’ve heard lately. This is a great start to a new series and I’ve been introduced to some characters that I can’t wait to hear their stories.

Abby is an assassin. Her past could have destroyed her but instead it’s made her strong. Did it make her too strong? Will she push her chance for love away? As she tries to save the lives of a group of kidnapped children from evil, sadistic men, will Abby trust Kane with her heart?

Kane is so tough but he’s tender too. He loves strong women but has he met one that’s too strong for him? Can he make it past Abby’s defenses and show her what love is? Kane’s team works together with Abby’s team of assassins in trying to save the children but will he be able to save Abby?

In the midst of all this we have all kind of danger and intrigue. This is definitely worth a credit. I can’t wait for the next story in this series.

Great new author for me

This is the first book by Elle Kennedy that I have listened to and I can't wait for the next one in the series. This is a definite adult book due to the underage sex ring and Abby's story but it was well done in my opinion. Loved all the characters and can't wait for their stories. Definitely worth the credit.

Sets the game board for an overall decent series

This was a great opening book for a protector romance series. I liked that Abby was just as much a force to be reckoned with as Kane. I really liked that Abby wasn’t the lone token woman-warrior surrounded by all the alpha males, And I loved the way the future MCs were developed here. Most books give the other characters less screen time, but this book spent a fair bit of time setting up the backstories and conflicts. Thank goodness I got the series on sale, because I was left chomping at the bit to get to the next couple of books.

The thriller side of the story was surprisingly good, to the point that it almost worked better for me than the romance. The romance, given Abby’s past traumas, was appropriately a slow burn. There were only a couple steamy scenes and I’m not sure I was sold on Abby’s comfort. But, that’s a problem with romances featuring an MC with a major abuse backstory.

⛔️ This book delves heavily into themes of foster system abuse and trafficking. As much as I dislike romances with sexual abuse plots, I thought the author handled them well.

The series overall is a little off on the romance to thriller ratio, generally going too hard on the slow burn, too much on the emotionally unavailable tough girls, and too meager on the number of sex scenes for 10-12 hour books. The thriller side doesn’t always focus on sex abuse, but does get into violence and torture more than most romances, and is even willing to kill off peripheral characters, if you’re just looking for sexy good time protector romance, this series may not be for you.

Finally, I’m very impressed with the narrator. In protector romance, I usually prefer male or duet narration, but Ms. Ryan was phenomenal: she knew her military lingo, gave decent (and varied) male voices, and was great with the various accents.

This was pretty darn good!

This was a surprise. There were damaged souls who were touched by kindness and understanding. There were mercenaries who did missions for morality instead of financial gain. There were bad guys that learned that they weren’t untouchable. There was Romance and understanding. There were bad asses and bad assed chicks. There was violence and action and good guys that saved the day. There was hope for a brighter future.

Worth a credit? Absolutely yes but, I was able to enjoy it as part of the Romance package. Now I’m moving on to book two of the series.

Yes, I would recommend this book. Lots of action, couldn't stop listening.

What about Allyson Ryan’s performance did you like?

She is good, but she must STOP using contractions!! It takes away from her good range, and makes a little bit of her reading style lazy.

a bit misty eyed when our 2nd character hero walks away from the hospital...book #2 perhaps

Great First Book in a Series

A intelligent heroine, believable action and romance that's not over the top. I enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend.
