The series was probably the best one I have “had read to me”. I normally play a book while I am going to sleep, however I was not able to do that with this series. I found myself resetting the time. Each book grabbed me so early on I just couldn’t stop them. Yes, it did leave some sleepless nights, but it was worth it.
The narrator brought the characters to life in these books. I have had some books that I felt the narrator took away from the story. You will not find that in these books.
The last book I will have to say was my favorite. I was thinking it would not be, but how wrong was I. It’s not often a book will bring me to tears and leave me wanting to scream at them for just not saying what they feel.
I will be purchasing more of this author’s books. I’m sure they will all be very enjoyable.

Awesome Series

I liked how everything was tied together. At times the narrator would use the wrong voice the characters so it was confusing at some points. Over all fun to listen to and great humanity awareness.

Great female characters

Based on some of the reviews, I was preparing for the worst. I figured “what the heck?” since it was only one credit and I was getting 4 books for the price of one. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and grateful that I took a chance! Stacy Reid is a fantastic author. These are set in pre-Victorian times, and she has managed to inject them with social awareness of the plights that society dealt with during those awful days. The love stories were nice, but the main plots always focused on the miscommunications of the hero/heroine, and that can be tiresome after awhile. I still thoroughly enjoyed them. She’s really good at writing steamy love scenes that aren’t vulgar at all. She also injects most of her outlying characters with past issues that contribute to their defense mechanisms. I will try some of her other stories and am grateful to Audible for making this series a 4-for-one credit. Ms. Reid or Dreamscapes may want to try a stronger narrator like Bianca Amato or Kate Reading in the future. This one sounds very girly and childish no matter what speed you set the narration on. That’s the only downside.

Pleasantly Surprised

Similar to others I thought this was a great value. I was truly captivated by story 1 and story 4. I love the mix of romance combined with shedding some light on social issues of the time. These are stories you can go back to, or if you’re like me listen to the best parts over and over. Sit back and enjoy the ride - you know it’s going to be a happy ending.

Four lovely stories

Love the narrator and the story overall. Each story was well told from both sides of the relationships.

Great series

“Now is not the time to use ‘full blown’ and ‘scandal’ in the same breadth.”
In my regency romance, I want precocious gals who win over growly guys with enough angst to make my heart squeeze … but not too much angst to overcome the sweet, the sass, and the steam. This series delivers, even if the books get progressively more angsty. Book 1 is what put Ms. Reid at the top of my regency romance author list.

The minor faults:
-No Table of Contents to separate the books (hence me listing the chapters below)
-These books run longer than the author’s usual fare and that extra time is spent on angst
-Each man stubbornly, infuriatingly refuses to love, leaving it to his lady to punch through to his heart
-There’s a lot of time spent bemoaning the plight of women, children, and the lower class
-This author writes a great show, so there’s no need to tell us about the “eroticism” of the naughty bits.
-Bears repeating: if you have to tell us he’s doing something erotic, he’s doing it wrong. 😜

The major feels:
Ch1 Accidentally Compromising the Duke - Adele and Edmund ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“He kissed her and it was glorious.”
Perhaps I might have liked a tad more humor… Nope. I’m going to say this was the perfect blend of all the tropes I’d hate in contemporary romances, but love, love, love from jolly old England. There’s even some bodice ripping. 😜 Great pacing, awesome narration, and more than one naughty get-together for good value.

Ch28 Wicked in His Arms - Olivia and Tobias ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tobias: “It speaks”
Of all the gents, Tobias was my favorite, namely because he’s the biggest stick in the mud.
Of all the ladies, Olivia is my favorite because she’s an indomitable force of nature.

Olivia: “I give you leave then to swoon.”
Best enemies to lovers fireworks. Also, a slow burn with one measly get together here. Nope.
I loved the irresistible pull that had them combusting everywhere but the bedroom.

Ch51 How to Marry a Marquis - Evie and Richard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I seem to also pass wind uncontrollably,”
It starts with trope-tactic perfection as effervescent Evie sets her cap for jaded Richard.
There’s humor, heat, and sabotage to ensure Evie avoids her mama’s machinations.

“It is not for you to determine my strength and tell me what I will wilt under.”
Then the series leans into angst over humor. Richard is so stubborn and cruel for so long. Evie repeatedly gives soul bearing speeches and Richard repeatedly responds with soul shredding disdain.

“It’s always been you.”
Yes, there is an HEA with groveling (from him) and sniffling (from me, er, from her, I meant her). But, in the end, i was more wrecked than romanced by this couple.

Ch68 When an Earl Meets his Match - Phoebe and Hugh ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved the first half, as Hugh and Richard’s little sister Phoebe connect in an unlikely, but heartwarmingly sweet, marriage of convenience. The second half floundered in part because the characters were inconsistent. Richard from the previous books, who thumbed his nose at society and his status-conscious parents, and who should have the utmost respect for a man who would wed his already pregnant sister (given society’s shunning of him and his daughter), inexplicably sides with his parents and society.

Then there was Hugh’s dogged coldness. Perhaps it was just my fatigue at getting four leading men in a row who are such raging blockheads that they refuse to open their hearts, but I had a hard time liking Hugh, much less forgiving him when he finality comes around. Also, this was the longest book with the slowest burn to get to the naughty bits. Still a pretty good listen, especially as part of this series.
And definitely worth it as a four for one credit deal.
