Review

Excellent book. Love the series. Would prefer another Narrator whose voice would more accurately reflect the main character, Kenneth McCoy. Mr. Hill's voice seems a bit to old to accurately portray McCoy.

The Beginning of many great friendships

What did you love best about Semper Fi?

It starts the story of many acquaintances in The Corps series of books. I feel I know the people in the books better now. They end up being great friends in later books.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It is a great series of intertwined vingettes that keep you listening.. I listened to Part 1 one on one day, and Part 2 the next. It was hard to stop listening at lunch.

What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dick Hill's narration brings each character to life by 'different voices' for the different characters. In the beginning, it sounds kind of hokey, but soon seems as if you are hearing the characters speaking - and it helps keep them apart in your mind.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A story about a group of hard-bitten Marines thrown together just before Pearl Harbor. This mish-mash of acquaintances go on to form a strong bond in Marine Aviation and help to win WW II.

Any additional comments?

I had to choose between Tom Clancy's new book, read by Lou Diamond Philips or Semper Fi. I chose Semper Fi because Clancy's book got poor reviews due to political content.
I think I made the right choice.

awesome beginning to the book 📚😊

I found the book to be very entertaining as well as give a idea of the exprita core in the United States Marine corps and an understanding where China Marines come from

Great First Book- prior to series going downhill.

What did you love best about Semper Fi?

Strong characters. Just enough action and sex to make it enjoyable. Although that much rampant sexuality and love at first sight becomes a bit unbelievable after time. At times feels a little like a romance novel. I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series and then found I couldn't continue.

Great book

If you could sum up Semper Fi in three words, what would they be?

great plot, characters

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

it's a sustainable plot that builds on characters throughout the books.

Any additional comments?

I want to thank Audible for putting this on sale a few months ago; I am an avid Audible fan and have a long commute. I bought it for fun, figuring I didn't have much to lose - about $4. I have now finished book 5, and am still addicted.

To the person who reviewed one of the books in the series that this is a male story, I strongly disagree - I have loved every bit of it, and it brings the history to life; and I'm not normally a history buff. Love it!

Mixes Marine Corps history with a a riviting story

Let me start of by saying that I have a hard time getting into fiction. But I especially like the way he uses factual Marine Corps History to create a riveting story that is only partially fictional.

As an Honorably Discharged Marine Corps Sergeant, I'M HOOKED and will be listening to the entire series.

The only downside is that it takes a little getting used to the narrator, but once you get past that, I think just about any Jarhead will identify with Ken "Killer" McCoy.
