Publisher's summary

My brother got mixed up with a crime lord and lost everything he had, including his life.

And now I have to pay his debt.

All I have is 20 bucks in my pocket and the clothes on my back. The bank took the house, and my last living relative was murdered. Knuckles threatened to torture me if I ran. He's counting down the days until he'll claim me...making me treasure my final days of freedom.

But I'm not going to wait around. I'm running like hell.

To Milan.

The greatest lingerie designer in the world is looking for new talent for Barsetti Lingerie. I'm not exactly model material, but maybe I can get a job doing something...and get paid under the table.

But when I meet the infamous Conway Barsetti, he has other plans for me.

Did I just run away from one monster into the arms of another?

WOW.. WOW.. WOW THE NEXT GEN OF BARSETTIS ARE HERE

I thought I’d said a sad farewell to Button and Crow’s world.. but thankfully this favorite author of mine has lured me back in with a story about their son Conway and his cousin Carter from Cane and Adeline.. and I’m one happy happy bunny right now knowing this is going to be a long 9 book series with a book being released each month.. and I can’t wait.

Thanks to her now dead brother, Sapphire is on the run from an evil Crime Lord called Knuckles, she’s had to flee the US, she’s living on the streets of Milan and she needs a job desperately. She’s seen an ad for lingerie models.. however Sapphire knows nothing about the modelling world but she’s willing to do just about any job that brings in cash.. sweeping floors, cutting fabrics, sewing.. anything. But Sapphire’s world changes when she gets picked as a potential model for Top Lingerie Designer/Guru Conway Barsetti and when the sexy, brooding, bad boy of the fashion world sees her he becomes focused on her, inspired by her and drawn to her.. his Muse.

This starts a compelling story where seismic chemistry, feisty banter and mutual attraction is cut short when Sapphire gets caught up in a slave ring and it’s left to Conway Barsetti to save his Muse.. and, when an obscene amount of cash changes hands, Sapphire becomes his.. his willing grateful slave, his tempting plaything and his biggest threat. Because it isn’t long before this beautiful feisty woman stirs up new emotions in Conway.. that of jealousy, possessiveness, protectiveness and him actually caring about her welfare. Their story’s just beginning, Sapphire’s virginal sexual awakening has begun, the rebuffed and dangerous Crime Lord is pissed off.. and Conway’s emotional walls are beginning to crumble.

Well I didn’t get much sleep last night.. but I’m not complaining.. no indeedee.. why you may ask? - well I was totally lost in a world that’d drawn me in before with Buttons and Crow’s amazing dark trilogy where rich alpha men own, dictate, push boundaries and get themselves tangled up with feisty strong women who don’t massage their egos, don’t worship the ground they walk on and don’t settle for being just another conquest. Already this 9 book series has the potential to rock my world, be epic and consume my thoughts.. and the building emotional vibes, the dark looming danger and the smouldering embers leaking from its chapters scream “you ain’t seen nothing yet”. So all I can do is watch and wait for the next book in this potentially awesome series to become available, to snatch it up, to eagerly consume it in one sitting.. and then to rinse and repeat the following month. And the next audiobook is scheduled for release on 26th June.. yay my birthday and a delicious treat just for me.

Worth a credit? Absolutely YES.. Penelope Sky is a gifted author who knows how to pace a story, how to world-build with descriptive scenes, how to build and layer a storyline and she knows how to write sensual dark anti-heroes who steal your breath, stir your emotions, have you swooning with their words and actions and leave you breathless. She has woven a delicious plot around an intimidating, mega-rich, controlling, powerful man and his stubborn fearless sassy Muse who may be down on her luck but she’s far from broken.. she inspires him and he builds her confidence up so she can shine.. but it can only be for him. Dual POV and a great pair of narrators whose vocal talents brought this story to life, made it thoroughly entertaining and made it a very creditworthy story.

Buttons and Lace with different names

Same story, different names. Not wasting my money on the rest of the series. It’s good, but not new.

LOVED IT BUT A YEAR LATER AND THE WAIT CONTINUES!

THIS REVIEW IS FOR ALL BOOKS IN THIS SERIES AND A NOTE TO THE AUTHOR. I loved all of Penelope Sky’s books and loved loved loved books in this series but I have been waiting over a year since book 7 was released. Now I’m just annoyed and have lost interest. Note to authors: I understand the suspense of a new release however, (for me)I loose interest if I am waitIng over six months for answers to a cliffhanger. I have stoped buying incomplete series because of this. Since Audible has thousands of audiobooks I can always find another rich good looking hero to love! I do love this series but if you have not started to listen I suggest you wait until all books are out because she is brutal with her cliffhangers. Narration is Awesome! Micheal and Samantha are alway flawless in whatever they read!!. Natilie Eaton is new to me and sometimes she can be a bit dramatic but she gets better the more she reads.

Slow and Repetitive

I love Penelope Sky’s work, but this book was painful to listen to. It was so slow and repetitive. The characters would say the exact same thing time and time again. It was like listening to the same thoughts for hours. I was floored that the editors allowed the book to be published like this. Anyways, I decided to give this series one more shot by moving on to the next book, and it did get much better. I’m now on the third book in the series. If it slows down, I will move on to something outside of this series.

Disgusting!

I'm not new to romance stories or even ones about dominance but knowing what a hard time the heroine had in life he practically RAPED her mouth, enjoying making her struggle for breath while tears ran down her face. And this is how he treated his precious "muse"?I'll never read another word by this author!

I’d Like To Know…

Are the narrators reading from a book that the author wrote or are they reading from a rewritten script? It’s frustrating when trying to follow along in the book sometimes and the language isn’t the same. Is Audible trying to “dumb it down”? What’s the issue?? It’s frustrating!!

Conway & Sapphire

*****Spoiler Alert*****

Audible review. Dual POV. Lingerie Series Book 1 of 15, not really a cliffhanger but it ends with a threat. This series follows the Buttons series and lost a star because of the inconsistent character descriptions from both the Buttons series and then within the pages of this book. Narration: mostly an average American accent; Michael briefly adopts an Italian accent. Trigger warnings: human trafficking and murder.

Sapphire runs from NYC and her deceased brother's debt to Knuckles to Italy to audition for Conway (he is a high end lingerie designer, club owner and bitty's women from the Skull Kings for their families'), gets hired by him, Conway gives her an advance to get a hotel and food. Carter and Conway meet to discuss buying Anastasia for her father from the Skull Kings for $10 million, Conway buys her then puts her in his show as a model with Sapphire as his star. Carter investigates Sapphire, gives Conway the info he found on her, Conway offers to clear Sapphire's debt if she'll become his muse but she turns him down. Knuckles leaves Sapphire a letter in her hotel room, she runs, the Skull Kings captured & auctioned her. Conway buys Marissa & Sapphire at the auction, drops Marissa off with Carter to be eventually returned to her family, returns Anastasia to her family, and takes Sapphire home telling her she belongs to him now. Conway kisses Sapphire, makes her a romantic white baby doll with diamonds sewn onto the straps, and Sapphire gets a birth control shot. Carter warns Conway about Knuckles. JP

A good start to a series

I enjoyed this book but not quite as much as the Buttons series, maybe because that was my first experience with this author. But I like that this series can be read as a stand-alone or a continuation with the Barsetti family, if you’ve read some of her other books.

I loved it! Definitely Recommend.

Barsettis!!

I didn't realize that Conway was Crow and Pearl's son until later on in the book. Dang, I just skipped a whole series without realizing it! I already read Crow and Pearl's story but I haven't gotten to Cane's yet. I was waiting months for the whole series to be done so I could read it all at once since I had to wait for Crow and Pearl's when it first came out. I plan to catch up on Cane's story right after I finish this book.

Muse in Lingerie. Oh my! I loved it. I found Penelope Sky I think on Facebook, where she advertised and wrote Mrs. Fifty Shades on a blog. That's how I got introduced to the Buttons series. Though her stories include dark stuff like sex trafficking, brutal rape, etc... I fell in love with her writing. You definitely emphasize with the characters. I love that she picks beautiful names for her female characters like Pearl, Sapphire, etc.

Anyway- speaking of Sapphire. Throughout the book, there were parts that I have to admit that if I was around Sapphire, I'd slap her for stupidity sometimes. Like girl. You got picked. You're beautiful! Accept it! Embrace it! You meet someone who is willing to help you? Why are you not taking it? You knew you didn't have much options. Should've took SOME help while you had the chance.. Hell yeah, I'd be pissed too if I offered someone help and all of the sudden, they put themselves in a worst situation and I had to pay 100 million to help. (But also at the same time, even when Conway is extremely wealthy and a successful lingerie designer, he should have been more grateful because SAPPHIRE was the reason why he got more ideas, got more sales, etc etc etc). Ugh, Sapphire should have took a [work] phone. Sometimes I liked her attitude, sometimes I didn't. She let pride get in the way especially at the wrong times(don't we all?) Although some of her choices were annoying, she wasn't all that bad.

As for Conway. I grew to love him in the first book. He is much like his father - intimidating, dark, yet caring to the right people. I learned in the book that he and his cousin "buy" girls to send them back to their families. I am happy that they have chosen to do something good with their power, being involved with the underworld and all. I mean, obviously - since his mother and aunt were sex slaves before. I also liked that he APPRECIATES the art in a woman's body. Most guys we meet are known to go straight for the physically naked body and don't actually appreciate "the art" or the "time" women put to feel sexy like hair and makeup, or lingerie. Although I don't agree with Conway all the time, he was smart about it and turned it into a career.

As for the narrators on Audible, I actually liked Michael Ferraiuolo's take for Conway, and other characters. I was first introduced to M. Ferraiuolo from Black Obsidian. Michael and Samantha had better voice chemistry.

I am going to catch up on Cane's story now. I'll be back for Conway and Sapphire.
