Steamy new series

This is another series written by Ann Charles. It's more of a romance than a mystery, but, that's ok because Ann Charles is great in any genre of books. Her characters are intelligent and engage in witty dialogue. Charles also knows how to create sexual tension without being vulgar or over the top. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series.

I love Ann Charles

I know Ann Charles from the Deadwood series, which I love. I was a bit skeptical when I started listening because it seemed more like a romance than a mystery. However, I found myself sucked in and in capable of putting this book down. Ann Charles has a gift for creating interesting characters who engage in humorous witty dialogue. She also had a gift for building sexual tension. After the first chapter I didn't care that the mystery took a backseat to the romantic aspect of the story. This is an entertaining book and I look forward to the next book.

Very disappointing

I have loved the previous series by this author the dancing Winnebagos and the deadwood mysteries. They were fantastic so I was very disappointed in this first book of this new series. The characters and story were just too predictable and boring I ended up returning this book

The narrator is ruining this for me. UPDATED

I am in chapter 6 and I love the storyline. I can tell it would be a great book with the right narrator. I hate to say it but this narrator is making me frustrated. She sounds like she is trying to keep her voice quiet or something and it is making her sound like a boring teacher reading a power point during lecture. The conversations between the characters is narrated as if they are gossiping to each other in a corner, and her cadence is off. The pregnant pauses are too short and the delay between sentences is too long. I am really hoping she gets better.

UPDATE: I should have just counted to ten and listened for 15 more minutes. Please disregard my earlier rant. The narration is great! I’m totally shocked. Could be the wine.

Look What the Wind Blew In: A Review

Great mystery. Lots of laughs, scary moments, and a love story. Lisa Larson is a great narrator. I can't believe she did all of those voices and accents. I love Ann Charles. I would read anything she writes. Don't miss this great audiobook!

Not as good as expected

This was not a bad story, but considering the potential it was definitely a little disappointing. The mystery never really panned out and the conclusion was predictable and unimaginative. The characters are witty and likeable, and the Mayan cultural research provided an interesting background, but never really got the attention I wanted it to. I don't mind a bit of steamy romance to spice up the plot, but in this case there was so much time spent on that aspect that it took away from what I think is the much more interesting storyline - ancient archeology and action packed mystery. Also the narrator has a tiresome, innane rhythm that was a bit grating. Overall it was entertaining, just not as great as Id hoped
