Charley Davidson isn't your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She's more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth…but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason. When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer's next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes' help. Arsonist or not, he's the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.

Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling series by Darynda Jones.

So Spunky!

Any additional comments?

I own all of this series in print, but listened to them again when I discovered them on Audible. I love the stories and main character's sense of humor. She just cracks me up! Very enjoyable, with wit and sarcasm to make you smile!

:-)

The narrator is FAB! I like the storyline, but sometime find the silliness of Charley a bit frustrating.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SERIES!

What made the experience of listening to Fifth Grave Past the Light the most enjoyable?

Charlie Davidson's humor and flippant attitude and there is lots of Reyes, and the storyline was great...as usual.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Reyes. I think I'm in love. He is so loving and sexy, but a cold and ruthless at the same time. You never really know if he is acting in Charlie's best interest.

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

Charlie. She is fun, strong and does her own thing. She is not sitting at home waiting for a call from Reyes or following him around. Her feeling she is not worthy of love makes her endearing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Reyes kisses Cookie in front of all the women in the bar and later makes it clear that he is Charlie's man. Also when Swopes does the big reveal.

Any additional comments?

These books are so much fun. I can't wait for the next one.

Back at it again, and again

I freaking love this series! I am listening for the 3rd time in the last 2 years. Lots of twists and turns. You don't always know what is coming and I love that. Too many books are like so many others or you already know what is going to happen without finishing it. Boring! This is not that kind of book. This author has such an awesome and relatable character base as Charley and her friends take the cake. Personality wise, she says out loud what we all just think. Hilarious and fun! Keeps you on your toes. Love this author and one of my all time favorite narrators. I highly recommend!

LOL a grime reaper who is A.D.D.!!!!

Ms. Jones, it was an amazing sequel! Charlie makes you want to sit her in time-out just to get a breather. The plot and sub-plots where intricate and involved. Not a dull moment anywhere. I like how you have the romance between Charlie and Reyes, but you don't allow it to consume the entire book. I TOTALLY LOVED THE ENDING!!!!! Can't wait for the next addition to the series. This book totally left me with a big grin on my face :D!

Ms. King, you were awesome as usual!

Yep, it was worth my credit. I would have loved for it to be longer,. But, I am one of those guest who likes to stay a little too long, if I am having a good time! lol!

Emotional

Can I just say, I really hate the intro and ending music on these audiobooks. Thank goodness it isn’t in between chapters. Anyway, now that I got that off my chest, I am so addicted to Charley and Reyes. I need to force myself to take a short break or the series will be over before I know it. I have already binged the first 5 books in the past 7 days! I’m going to try to listen to something different next to switch it up but I know I will get right back to it.

Fifth Grave Past the Light is book 5 in the Charley Davidson series. This book had some extra emotional stuff in it. I teared up at one point near the ending. For being a series heavy on humor, they sure have some dark things from time to time. One of the main mysteries in this book was catching a serial killer of 27 girls aged 7 and up. I was a bit upset that with all the other violence and torture that we see, this bad guy seems to have gotten off easy. More stuff is happening with Charley uncovering her power and abilities and Garrett seems to be helping to shed some light on some of it, so that will be interesting to see what happens with that and what role he will play going forward in the series. Reyes continues to be swoon worthy and I am so happy to finally see Charley acknowledging her feelings openly about Reyes. Uncle Bob continues to be one of my favorite characters. I am so glad that Charley has him in her life.

One thing that I continue to love but have yet to mention in any of my reviews thus far is the t-shirt and bumper sticker descriptions at the start of every chapter. They are great! I also love the descriptions of when Charley is interacting with a ghost or with her guardian/ ghost dog, Artemis. I was cracking up during one scene while she was rolling around with Artemis on the floor and people saw her.

The narration continues to be great. This series is worth blowing through all of my credits. I can’t wait to hear what happens next.

Great addition to the series :D

4.5-5 stars

I'm so very pleased with this series and this was another great addition to it. Charley has a lot of stuff going on in this story as she investigates an arson case as well as a serial killer who's 27 victims have all shown up in Charley's apartment. And as normal, these are just the main cases she's working on and there's always more going on in the background. Things in the paranormal aspect seems to have spiked a bit as we get some unexpected news from Garrett. Also, there's a danger coming for Reyes that has Charley reeling. Now that he's moved in next door he's even harder to resist and Reyes makes some headway in showing Charley some of his good aspects.

The main cases get wrapped up in the end but the danger to Reyes isn't concluded. Now that things are settling down a bit it's nice to see Reyes being a bit less threatening and more sweet to Charley. Things aren't perfect between them but they are improving. Charley is getting more abilities (or maybe I should say that more of her abilities are being discovered) but I do wish she had a bit more control over them. Overall this was a great story and moved the series along nicely...I'm looking forward to the next book. I'd recommend this story/series. :D
