Publisher's Summary

Never underestimate the power of a woman on a double espresso with a mocha latte chaser high. (T-shirt)

Charley Davidson isn’t your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She’s more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth... but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason.

When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer’s next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes’ help. Arsonist or not, he’s the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.

Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times best-selling series by Darynda Jones.

This series just gets better and better!

This is the fifth book in the Charley Davidson series. Right now there are ten books in the series with the eleventh book (Eleventh Grave in Moonlight) expected to release in Jan 2017. These book just keep getting better and better. I absolutely loved this book and could not stop listening to it! This review will have some spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series.

I listened to this on audiobook and the audiobooks for this series have been fantastic. King does an awesome job of sounding just like I imagine Charley would. She also does great with other character voices and with portraying emotion. This is one of my favorite book series to listen to on audiobook.

With Reyes living down the hall from Charley things have really started to heat up between the two of them...in the physical realm this time. However, Charley gets distracted from this when the terrified ghosts of dead blond women start showing up in her apartment. When the number of dead women gets to the point where Charley can barely walk through her apartment Charley knows she has to figure out what is going on quickly.

We learn a lot more about what happened to Garrett Stokes in Hell in this book as well, which was nice. Additionally we find out a lot more truths behind what Charley and Reyes actually are and what their purpose is. Things are really starting to build and it looks like a supernatural war may be on the horizon.

There are so many awesome characters in this series; I enjoy reading about them all. I love the world and love how we keep learning more and more about the alternate world Charley is from.

The story continues to get more complex and interesting with each book. I love that there are individual mysteries solved in each novel and that there is also a larger story arc that is built on in each book...this my absolutely favorite type of urban fantasy to read.

Overall this was a fantastic addition to the series. This series just keeps getting better and better and shows no signs of slowing down. I would highly recommend to those who enjoy humorous urban fantasy with a lot of action. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait to read the next book in it.

marriage

omg what else can happen in this story.. this story was pretty great as well.. i like how more and more people are starting to know and accept Charlie ability. the way that she can speak to any and everyone is soo cool. I hate that she scared Rocket and threatened his sister, it was so not like her but I understand. finding out what all Garrett saw and went through made a lot of sense when trying to figure out what will happen the Reyes and Charlie, it answered questions about their past too. now things from books 1 to 4 are starting to be clearer. I like how her team is getting stronger and larger I can't wait to see her build her army to fight Satan. I like these books because it is not all about Charlie and solving murders, there is soo much more. there is love, expense, action, and drama and it doesn't all have to deal with charlie. I am curious to see if we learn more about Nickey who sees people's murders before they happen.

Awesome Narration!

The narrator was amazing at making each person's voice unique and consistent throughout the book. That made it even more enjoyable.

It has it all, mystery, friendship, love, & humor

Would you consider the audio edition of Fifth Grave Past the Light to be better than the print version?

I don't know if audio is better in print, but I do know this is one book (series) that I will try both!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was on the edge of my seat all the way through. It was the humor and the interactions of the characters.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I REALLY enjoy Lorelei Kings narration. I have gotten other books because she was the narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

this series is GERAT. it is a MUST

A Devil of a Story

The narrator is excellant. The story entertaing. I would have given a 5 star rating for story but all the explicit sex was unnecessary, and frankly, I'm sick of it .

Darynda Jones is a master at blending suspense, paranormal, romance, & witty writing into a intricate plot guaranteed to keep you hooked. I have read and re-read this series multiple times as well as listened to these audiobooks over & over. Lorelei King does a fantastic job at voicing not only Charley but the series many supporting characters. This is a series you'll never regret purchasing.

my only part of frustration is wondering when Charlie will learn that if she can imagine it she can do it. at times her ADD is downright annoying...nevertheless her sarcasm is hilarious!
