Publisher's summary

Following his beloved debut, Traitor's Blade, Sebastien de Castell returns with volume two of his fast-paced fantasy adventure series, inspired by the swashbuckling action and witty banter of The Three Musketeers. Knight's Shadow continues the series with a thrilling and dark tale of heroism and betrayal in a country crushed under the weight of its rulers' corruption.

A few days after the horrifying murder of a duke and his family, Falcio val Mond, swordsman and First Cantor of the Greatcoats, begins a deadly pursuit to capture the killer. But Falcio soon discovers his own life is in mortal danger from a poison administered as a final act of revenge by one of his deadliest enemies. As chaos and civil war begin to overtake the country, Falcio has precious little time left to stop those determined to destroy his homeland.

Great read

I am really enjoying this series. I wish it had come up on an algorithem but if you are seeing it now...it's worth the credit. The dialogue is well done and the story maintains momentum. Lovely narrator.

De Castell and Jameson do it again

I hope these two fellows, De Castell and Jameson, have met and are best friends. Together, they have created a world and characters that my brain will hold onto forever. De Castell created a world and reality that twists and turns in the most naturally tragic ways and fallible heroes that deserve to win. Jameson brings the characters to life in the most magical and, I'm not kidding when I say as magical as our scientific world can get, and believable way. Seriously, how does one person hold that many voices in his head and that many accents in his mouth? I want to meet both these men and shake their hands because I'm just so impressed and happy with this series.

More Fun Adventures

Knight's Shadow starts up where the last book left off with our heroes on the run. As exciting as that sounds, book 2 doesn't quite get off the ground as quickly as it's predecessor. With two more added to the group of three, and a new army of Greatcoats, our heroes continue their journey to find their place in a new world. All is not what it seems though as there will be betrayal from within their new allies.

While this book seemed a bit slow at first, things got going about a third of the way in. Perhaps due to the advent of a war, the humor isn't as prevalent as before, but the characters, Falcio in particular, are still the driving force of this series. A few more of them are fleshed out in this volume, and the betrayal of one is a big part of the book. Though at times you wonder why the others were unable to figure it out for so long.

Overall, Knight's Shadow is another wonderful and fun tale from this series, and narrator Joe Jameson continues to do a masterful job.

Even better than book one (which was amazing!)

These books are fabulous all around but I highly recommend listening to them instead of just reading them since the narrator, Joe Jameson, does such a brilliant job!!! I can’t recommend them highly enough! I just bought book 3 because I’m completely hooked.;)

amazingly original

Loved every moment of it. Beautifully dark, compared to the first installment. I loved how the now four heroes were fully flushed out.

Great Escape

I am thoroughly enjoying listening to this series. Great characters, fun and complex story that keeps me guessing and one of the best narrations I’ve ever heard.

They tortured them

This was an amazing read and pace, the scene of witnessing what happened to Helena was rough, but I know that was the point. also to mail home Trin's utter evil. I recommend it, case closed, leave me alone audible.

Great Follow Up!

The first book had great dialogue between its main characters. This dialogue is what really enthralled me. The second book of the series has elements of this witty banter, but in the end Knight's Shadow does a far greater job at telling a story.

The pacing was much better and this only served to improve the overall product/book.

I highly recommend this book.

Outstanding

This is probably one of my newest favorites of all time. I've binged these books. I still have the fourth left but I can't put it down.

These novels have snark, loss, laughter, love, growth. There is just so much to them. Thr narrator does a superb job. If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings and the Kingkiller Chronicles, you will love this series.

Maybe even better than the first one

I really don't have the words for how much I am enjoying this series. Fabulous. Also, my one gripe with the narration from the first book, his female voices, has improved immeasurably. Or I adjusted. I'm not sure which, really, but the end is the same. I loved it.
