Publisher's Summary

After years of struggle and sacrifice, Falcio val Mond, First Cantor of the Greatcoats, is on the brink of fulfilling his dead king's dream: Aline, the king's daughter, is about to take the throne and restore the rule of law once and for all.

But for the Greatcoats, nothing is ever that simple. In the neighboring country of Avares, an enigmatic new warlord is uniting the barbarian armies that have long plagued Tristia's borders - and even worse, he is rumored to have a new ally: Trin, who's twice tried to kill Aline to claim the throne of Tristia for herself. With the armies of Avares at her back, led by a bloodthirsty warrior, she'll be unstoppable.

Falcio, Kest, and Brasti race north to stop her, but in those cold and treacherous climes, they discover something altogether different, and far more dangerous: A new player is planning to take the throne of Tristia, and with a sense of dread the three friends realize that the Greatcoats, for all their skill, may not be able to stop him.

Not one line disappointed me

The great coats book series is only worthy of such a beautiful ending. The mystery, plotting, twists and even the realistic combat are all to love. The narrator, all throughout the books kept consistent and made the whole story incredibly immersive. I remember every moment as if I lived it. 10/10

Fantastic ending for a fantastic quartet

The Greatcoats Quartet is now up among my favorite series of all time. These books are so full of life that I feel as if I have known the characters for the entirety of mine. I will miss the first time that I heard tell of their adventurous heroics, but take solace in the fact that I may visit them in the future.

Heart wrenching, swashbuckling, funny adventure

I’ve listened to this series twice and have found more to love each time. It’s an adventure with imperfect heroes (sorry Brasti), good friends who are pressed to their ragged edges and new enigmatic enemies.
Sebastien de Castell has created a compelling world, characters whose lives I’m completely invested in and problems that need clever committed heroes. Also- you may need some Kleenex for this one.
Joe Jameson brings the characters to life - it’s magic and keeps me coming back.

This series.. amazed me.

A series that went from hating to loving from one chapter to the next. I was skeptical from the start.

I wept and then chuckled.. and soon after could’ve thrown my headphones (which was weird, this was the first “new to me” series I’ve listened to on audible). I loved it and Joe Jameson in my mind was amazing at narrating Castell’s work so much so that I’ll probably seek out more of his narrated work.

I’ll also likely listen to anything about this world Castell has created. I’ve read on and off for years, usually sci-fi, and I picked up audible on a whim.. and immediately dove into books I’d likely never buy a copy of only to be ashamed that I’d ignored a genre of fantasy for so long.

It was a Journey that I’ll never forget and will likely have to listen to again.

A beautiful conclusion to the story

I really enjoyed the entire series. The characters were fantastic. Even the "bad" ones were typically bad from a point of view and often lead to some confliction. I highly recommend this series.

Satisfying and emotional end to a gripping series

By the end of this series I found myself so connected to each of the characters in the series I was very saddened to see it end. So many strong themes are approached throughout the series that seem to be offered in a unique way. Nearing the end I just wanted nothing more than for Kest, Brasty, and Falcio to ride off after yet another seemingly impossible task. However, the conclusion given was satisfying and meaningful. Thoroughly outstanding narration by Joe Jameson easily invoking all the emotions. This was my first exposure to both Castell and Jameson's work and will definitely be pursuing them further.

Not my favorite, but worth it.

I have very much enjoyed the series and I think it is awesome. I did not love the last book as much as I thought I would, but, I had very high expectations. I still love the series and think it is well worth the read/listen. Great job to the author, narrator, and anyone else who was involved with making this series. Thank you!

Great story, Great read

Mr. de Castell has written an homage to the great works of Dumas. He has more than succeeded with the Greatcoat series. I was truly sorry when I finished the final chapter and hope that the tease of further adventures in the future comes to pass. I would be remiss in this review if I did not recognize the talents of Mr. Joe Jameson who imho is one of if not the finest narrators in the business. This combination of talents has me hoping for more.
