Publisher's Summary

Following his beloved debut, Traitor's Blade, Sebastien de Castell returns with volume two of his fast-paced fantasy adventure series, inspired by the swashbuckling action and witty banter of The Three Musketeers. Knight's Shadow continues the series with a thrilling and dark tale of heroism and betrayal in a country crushed under the weight of its rulers' corruption.

A few days after the horrifying murder of a duke and his family, Falcio val Mond, swordsman and First Cantor of the Greatcoats, begins a deadly pursuit to capture the killer. But Falcio soon discovers his own life is in mortal danger from a poison administered as a final act of revenge by one of his deadliest enemies. As chaos and civil war begin to overtake the country, Falcio has precious little time left to stop those determined to destroy his homeland.

Great Follow Up!

The first book had great dialogue between its main characters. This dialogue is what really enthralled me. The second book of the series has elements of this witty banter, but in the end Knight's Shadow does a far greater job at telling a story.

The pacing was much better and this only served to improve the overall product/book.

I highly recommend this book.

Infectious

The camaraderie of the Greatcoats is as infectious as the writing of Sebastien de Castell. This is a very good book and an excellent sequel. Although there were some aspects of the plot that I found predictable, it was a fun and exciting journey. Joe Jameson does an excellent job at bringing to life the words and friendship expressed in the writing of the Greatcoats. 4.3 Stars.

well played

just a top class story. i finished it feeling elated. not in a cheesy, superficial way, but in a way that acknowledges real danger that has just been overcome.

Awesome Story!!!

The story kept me in the world from beginning to end. I feel so lucky to have read it. Many times I have been drawn to books with so much life and so much suspense . This book seems to have topped the all, I know that there is more story to be told . I can't wait to read book three and four.

A little heavy on the violence details.

I jumped right in to this book after reading the first book. I enjoyed the story and the plots. The author does a great job building the characters and the narrator is superb. I understand this takes place during a very violent period even if fiction. The segment where Falcio goes through a nine day torture seemed to go on forever, maybe even a full chapter. I was exhausted.
I read for entertainment and while book one and two were both very entertaining the section where he relives his wife's brutal rape and murder in detail was not very entertaining for me. I understand this is part of Falcio's history and makeup but a little too much for me. At this point I have not decided if I will go on to book three. Maybe I just need a rest.

Even better than book one (which was amazing!)

These books are fabulous all around but I highly recommend listening to them instead of just reading them since the narrator, Joe Jameson, does such a brilliant job!!! I can’t recommend them highly enough! I just bought book 3 because I’m completely hooked.;)

De Castell and Jameson do it again

I hope these two fellows, De Castell and Jameson, have met and are best friends. Together, they have created a world and characters that my brain will hold onto forever. De Castell created a world and reality that twists and turns in the most naturally tragic ways and fallible heroes that deserve to win. Jameson brings the characters to life in the most magical and, I'm not kidding when I say as magical as our scientific world can get, and believable way. Seriously, how does one person hold that many voices in his head and that many accents in his mouth? I want to meet both these men and shake their hands because I'm just so impressed and happy with this series.

My new favorite series

This is a wonderful series full of action and adventure. It also has a great deal of very deep emotion, tremendously well-realized characters, humor, tragedy, wit, magic, irony, and more. The most obvious premise to compare it to is the Three Musketeers in the sense that two of the three major characters are duelists and the third is an archer. Previously, they were magistrates who traveled the country adjudicating trials and fighting in trials by combat. Now their king is dead and they are disgraced and just trying to make a living. Of course, it's not long before they are embroiled in a plot to take back the country and disaster is around every corner.

I absolutely loved the characters in this series, especially the main character who narrates the story in first person. The narrator is first rate and I am now looking for other books he has narrated.

If I could, I'd give this book 10 stars.
