This is a fun listen. It is a combination cozy mystery and paranormal fantasy with great humor. Peg is wanting a quiet life now that her kids are grown and gone from the home. She is going through the change, and things around her when spirits of people she knows as well as strangers show up and tell her she needs to solve a cold case. That's when the crazy ride begins. This is a great debut book, and I look forward to more books in this series.



The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Brandolin Barrett.

I loved this book and cannot wait for more of the series. The book is non stop. There is some humor, a lot of ghost, and a cold case mystery. Peg Shaw is in the first phases of menopause and trying to enjoy her boring existence her own when way. Her long time dead Nana shows up and enlists her help in finding out who murdered a couple so they can finally rest and peace and move on in their afterlife. As the investigation goes more ghosts come, some good, some bad and some down right irritating. Peg must solve the murder and not become a victim herself.

LOVED IT!

I loved it! This book was full of suspense, mystery and humor. The narration was great and will keep you entertained. The author does a great job with the character builds and plot. This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more books in this series. potential but oh Lord

the storyline was very good. But I could not get past the narration which was sad

I love Peg. Her makeup breaks were great

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I found this book to be a very entertaining , easy listen. The characters were likable. I like Peg’s ‘I’m going through menopause, cut the bulls!@t attitude’, the arguments between the ghost couple, the flippant attitude of the grandmother. Peg’s not on her own when her dead grandmother asks her to help solve some cold cases. She gains a spirit guide, her husband’s support and help from some old friends. Despite this, most of the burden of figuring out who killed the couple is up to Peg.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Brandolin Barrett ). She does a great job becoming Peg. Her inflections and cadence really brings out all the character’s various personalities. Her style makes the book immersive so I felt I was a fly on the wall watching everything unfold.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. There is minor swearing.

Mature, but not senior;)

Not for someone with rigid spiritual beliefs. I found this to be an enjoyable mystery with a paranormal bent.
Peg Shaw is an empty-nester going through the fluctuations of menopause when she is suddenly visited by the ghost of her grandmother. Nana gives Peg a mission to help a murdered couple, but they’re not the only ghosts who turn up.
This is not a police procedural, so don’t expect the associated tight plotting. Ex: Officer Owen graduated with Peg’s older son in 1995, which is 24 years ago. Even if it was HS graduation, it would put them at 42 years old, +4 if college. He wouldn’t be the rookie on the force. Story copyright is 2018, so maybe 41? If you’re going to give a specific year, it helps to carry it through the story. Otherwise, just “8 years ago” works. I’m past menopause, so it’s not about being crotchety; rather, keeping the “little grey cells” sharp;)
I got some laughs from Peg’s crotchety-ness and mood swings from menopause, and trying to cope with an ever-expanding cast of spirits who involve themselves in the investigation. There are maybe double the spirit characters vs human.
Most enjoyable for someone who isn’t intimidated by life during and post menopause.
Barrett does a very decent job of narration. She has a very pleasant adult female voice that’s a great fit for this character, and she communicates a liveliness that engages the listener.
Happy to recommend. I did receive a promotional copy in exchange for an honest review.

Hot Flashes

I thought this was a good cozy mystery/ghost/magical mystery book.I enjoyed most of it.I thought there was an excess of ghosts to keep track of.I also say magical because we all know that no police chief would open a cold case because a ghost said so.So,it was good. Peg has always believed in the supernatural, but now she apparently is open enough to start seeing them. Her grandmother says she needs her help from the other side, and soon others start appearing. The first couple she is to help figure out who killed them. I love that most of the people in her life accepted her new gifts with too many questions. The characters were really fun and unique. Nice job on the narration.

Entertaining!

I think this is a very entertaining story! I loved the way that the characters were very real with real reactions to situations. Not very often do I see a character that gets frustrated at things like a normal person would. It was refreshing.

Really Great Paranormal Cozy

I really enjoyed this listen! It was even better than I expected. I was fully hooked on this paranormal cozy from the start. It was relatively unique and a lot of fun. Peg is a little grumpy but very likeable as a character. I liked the author's style and writing.

The narrator's performance for this story was absolutely perfect. If had just the right amount of variation in tone to reflect the events of the story. She was clear and had great voice differentiation as well. Excellent performance!

Both the author and narrator are new to me, but I would gladly listen to other stories by them in the future.
