Publisher's summary

Granny was famous for her award-winning apple pies - and notorious for murdering her husband Jacob at their homestead in Julian, California. The only trouble is, Granny was framed, then murdered. For more than 100 years, Granny's spirit has been searching for someone to help her see that justice is served - and she hits pay dirt when she pops in to a séance attended by her great-great-great-granddaughter, modern-day divorced mom Emma Whitecastle. Together, Emma and Granny Apples solve mysteries of the past and the present - starting with Granny's own unjust murder rap in the final days of the California Gold Rush.

Along with a sprinkling of history, this spirited new mystery series features the amateur sleuth team of Emma Whitecastle and the spirit of her pie-baking great-great-great-grandmother, Granny Apples.

"Emma handles her 'gift' of seeing the dead with aplomb, and class. I'll look forward to seeing where the sequel will take Emma and Granny." (Deadly Pleasures

"A charming tale, as appealing as apple pie. I predict a long life (and afterlife) for Sue Ann's latest series." (Harley Jane Kozak, Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity Award-winning author of Dating Dead Men)

"Take colorful characters in a charming setting, mix in a dash of romance, add a pinch of the paranormal, and serve it up like one of Granny's famous pies. I guarantee you'll be back for seconds." (Deborah Sharp, author of Mama Rides Shotgun)

I'm sorry

***I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I tried listening to this book but i didn't get far at all. The narrator sounded like she was reading to a room of 5 year olds. I restarted five times but finally gave up. I am so sorry, but i was asked to give an honest review. I have no idea if the book is good or not. I didn't get far enough to tell. i gave 3 stars to the story portion because i didn't want to bring the overall rating of this book too far down.

Cozy supernatural mystery - slightly spoilery

I love mysteries, and I love the supernatural so this is a great series for me. I also like it when bad things happen to cheaters . I was disappointed here, but am hopeful for future books in the series.

There are elements of cheating, divorce, murder, and an inherited talent for seeing dead people.

I struggled with the emphasis or maybe it was the cadence of the narration. I sped it up, listening at 1.4 speed and it was fine.

Apples and ghosts

Ghost a la Mode
A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery, Book 1
By: Sue Ann Jaffarian

Emma suddenly has a connection with ghosts. They work together (somewhat) to solve crimes committed generations ago. I liked it, but not as much as if there were fewer ghosts butting in.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Sandra Murphy.

Ghost a la Mode

I enjoyed this book more than I expected. The characters are very diverse and quirky. Sue Ann Jaffarian manages to infuse realism in a rather silly mystery. Sandra Murphy does a really good job bringing the characters to life and giving them different voices. I always enjoy a narrator who performs the book instead of reading it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an unbiased review.

Great Job!

First off must admit, I am a huge fan of Sue Ann's. Read her books faithfully. Was a little reluctant to try the audio version of this as I have a set tone and voice for the characters in my mind having been a fan of the series. The narration is far above expectations. I do listen to it on a faster speed, but enjoy the voice and style. It is a fun series and I encourage you to dive in!

Painful to listen

Terrible performance- probably one of the worst I’ve listened too. Very distracting from the story itself

Apples and ghost, great combo

Murder, mayhem, gold and apple pies. Stir them all together and you have a delightful story that ends too soon.

Loved the start of this series

This book had me right from the start. It drew me in and kept my attention! The narrator did a really good job with the characters giving them their own identities. I like this authors writing style. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Cute Story

Emma learns about seeing and hearing ghosts. And her family heritage with that of Granny Apple, insisting she didn’t kill anyone. Can she prove it, cute humorous story. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Good, wholesome, fun!

Enjoyed this read very much which surprised me as I wasn't sure about it to begin with!
Sandra Murphy's delivery was not over the top nor weak. At times I could almost see her laughing along with me!
Sue Ann Jeffiarian has written a witty story about a middle aged woman who is going through a messy divorce at the same time she 'meets' her great-great-great grandmother who was said to have killed her husband. Of course Emma's sanity is questioned by more than one person, including herself, as she begins to piece together the mystery surrounding her grandmother's death.
Light and enjoyable story perfect for listening whilst sunning yourself!

Ghostly goings on

I really enjoyed book three of this series so jumped at the chance to listen to how it all began (book one) so glad I did because this book was just as good. The characters are so engaging I just love them, especially Granny Apples. The story is very clever the way Emma has to solve both an old murder with the help from ghosts and a new murder with bad guys shelve can actually send to jail, if they don't kill her first. I think this is going to be a great series and I am off to start book two.
When Emma heads to a seance as a favour to a friend she had no idea that the girls night out would change her life forever. She comes away with more than a few answered questions, namely the ghost of her great-great-great grandmother who needs her help. Granny Apples was hung for killing her husband and she wants Emma to prove her innocent and set the record straight. Granny Apples tried to get help from Emma's mother many years ago but has she now finally found the one person who can help her. Emma had to trace her roots back to a small town where she finds a whole lot more ghosts and ghostly mysteries one of them being a recently murdered man. Can Emma get help from the local living or will it just be the local ghost that keep her from harms way because someone wants what ever is buried in the small town town and will stop at nothing to get it.
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job bringing the ghostly presence running through the book to life, the living were good to.
