A serial killer stalks women in rural Ohio. He is deranged but brilliant, known only by the grotesque nickname the media has given him - The Doll Parts Killer. The name is apt. He dismembers his victims and leaves them in garbage bags in public places. A residential neighborhood. Next to a roller rink. Behind a Burger King. The investigation is a disaster. No physical evidence. Unreliable witnesses. To make matters worse, the FBI has lost contact with the star profiler working the case.

3.5 Stars The Ending Was Deflating!!
This was a well written book. I enjoyed most of the story, and had a good time trying to predict what was going to happen next, or the overall plot. One minute I am leaning to one character as favourable, and then I find myself despising them later. I ended up liking characters, and could feel my emotions begin to spike when dramatic things would happen with them. It keeps your attention, and has a great plot. The main issue is the cliff hanger ending which really annoys me. Having said that I am going to get the next book. I was privileged to be provided a copy of this book for a honest and unbiased review
J. Scott Bennett was good with the delivery of the story although I found his voice a little monotone

Fast paced and entertaining.
Two yeas ago, Clint Wolf's life changed forever. Now, all he wants is a quiet and easy life, so he takes a job in a backwater place expecting nothing more than speeding tickets! But life isn't all roses and Clint's first taste of the job is facing off against an alligator. From then on it's a dark and twisted road of murder and deceit, with Clint trying to figure out what is going on before it's too late.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! The plot was intriguing and had a lot of twists and turns and I couldn't figure out who was the killer, or what exactly was going on till near the end! Poor Clint just wanted a quite life but this little town isn't going to give him that!! The characters were all well written and developed too. Clint is a deeply flawed character. His life changed forever two years ago and it's put a permanent stain on his thoughts, so much so that he needs alcohol to sleep. Despite this, he is willing to do what is needed to get to the bottom of the killings, no matter whose toes he has to step on!
In all, this was a great read. The only real negative I have about it was the romance that seems to be building. I felt like it is was the wrong character for Clint, but hopefully he will realise that before book 2!
J. Scott Bennett definitely knows how to perform a book like this! He gives each character their own personality and knows how to make them stand out. He also does great with the female characters and makes it so easy to follow who is talking at any given time.

An Awesome Listen
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. I really enjoyed this book. It has great characters and a fast paced plot. The hero is flawed, but does his job as police chief so well. As he tries to solve a murder, he is drawn into a mysterious plot. Between the writing and the narration this is a great audiobook. I will be listening to Book 2, if its half as good as the first one, I'll be thrilled.

So Much Fun!
Right from the start I felt like I was dropped into the swamps of Louisiana; J. Scott Bennett succeeds in bringing this story to life in a dramatic fashion. This murder mystery unfolds in an incredibly satisfying way, with twists that are hard to guess and characters with lives you'll want to follow. There are a few stand outs in this story that I won't soon forget (such as the old woman who is sure her husband will come home, even though he has recently been eaten by an alligator). I enjoyed this one from top to bottom, I would recommend it to any of my friends and I look forward to book 2!

Not forgotten and not forgiven...
It's one of those suspence / crime novels that keeps you glued to the pages late at night...
It starts with a horrible incident, an unimaginable tragedy which leaves Clint Wolf scarred for life and then goes on a rollercoaster of at first seemingly unexplained and illogical events, with lots of red herrings on the way, to end with a big boom when we finally get to know the solution to all this plotting and machinations. Then it all becomes clear and we wonder why we didn't see it coming...:)
The characters are very well drawn with just a few sentences, their personalities are diverse and definitely not white and black - there are a lot of grays in all of them. We can even understand to some extent why the villains are the villains and feel, well, unwilling compassion for them...
The interpretation of the book is really good - Mr Bennett does equally well both male and female voices, and the pace of his reading is just right.
It is a definite must for all crime/suspence/mystery lovers.

Just a nice easy listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would. I really enjoyed this book! It did take me a couple minutes to get into it, but after that I was hooked!
What was one of the most memorable moments of But Not Forgotten?
The unfolding of the story toward the end. I did have most of it figured out, but it was still very gripping. I got very into the story. I just loved this book.
What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr. Bennett is a fantastic narrator! He really brought the characters to life. He also brought the right amount of tension to the story line. He had me on the edge of my seat
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was very upset with the events at the end. I did laugh & teared up a few times. I also experienced some outrage.
Any additional comments?
This is a really wonderful book!! I can't wait to listen to more in the series. Well done!!!

Southern charm
I very much enjoy this book and felt that the characters and the story was very well fleshed out. It has a certain southern charm in both the narration and the descriptions of the place. However the eventual ending of the story was not based upon anything that was very believable which spoiled it somewhat in my eyes.

What happened to your face?
The first day as Chief of Police in the backwater Louisiana town of Merchant Loup wasn't as quiet as Clint Wolf had expected - an oversized alligator had taken a large dog and had to be hunted down. It does not go well and Clint spends the night in a tree, cold, miserable and covered in mosquito bites. Welcome to the new job. Things are going to get far worse.
This superbly written story sucks the reader in like the river mud of the bayou The characters, especially Wolf himself and his small police team, are completely three dimensional, with realistic dialogue and interaction. The feel of the surrounding land just oozes from the pages. And the story is pretty good, too, with fights and confrontation, murder and conspiracy, jealousy and hatred, crocodiles and a dog called Achilles. Oh, and just a twist of romance. Add in the (always) superb narration of J.Scott Bennett, whose deliciously softly accented voice perfectly fits the subject as well as bringing all the other protagonists vocally alive, and this book is as near perfection as it can get. O.K. perhaps one or two tiny flaws, but way too small to matter.
This is not a slick, poster comic detective; Clint Wolf is a fully rounded, if flawed and troubled man trying slowly to regain his life. But he has kindness, loyalty, strength and a good sense of humour. He'll need all of those to get him through his first few days as Police Chief in swampy Merchant Loup.
Highly recommended.

“Although I was breaking dishes on the inside, I remained unmoved on the outside”
Wow, loved it and it was exactly what I was looking for!
Action, mystery and intrigue, all really well put together and nothing too obvious! Maybe a few tropes thrown in there, but don’t all books have at least a few.
Well paced, well written, well narrated!
Scott does a brilliant job with the suspense and character voices; probably my favourite of the books I’ve listened to him narrate (they’re all good!).
Didn’t want to get out of my car and stop listening. Straight into book 2 for me.
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

I was given this free audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
