Too self-celebratory, but definitely some wise advice.

I didn't like the narrators voice nor the positive affirmations nor the end bits of other people's stories. I could get on a blog and read other people's stories. It's a little too corny and overly treasures and values oneself. It feels a little over self-involves at times

I like her advice on writing. I enjoyed how she explained grief, phases vs stages. Her no contact rule is a must. I found her explanations of not explaining yourself more than three time helpful, as well as a how manipulative people will continue to attempt to manipulate and drive you to their will.

Good information but a patronizing tone

This book has some useful information in it, especially the emphasis on NC (no contact with your ex) and I did find parts of the text helpful. My issue is that the author tends to talk down to the reader: "Do this." "Don't do that." "Grow up." And the narrator really emphasizes this bossy tone. Also, I didn't find the narrator's voice very appealing. She sounded like Mrs. Roper from "Three's Company" (a sit-com from the 70's & 80's).

Wow...

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Depressing. Aren't these kind of books supposed to make you feel better? I, too, recommend 'its called a breakup because its broken' and 'the 30 day heartbreak cure.'

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laural Merlington?

Someone with a young, calm and soothing voice. Someone hipper.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Getting Past Your Breakup?

The first 3 chapters.

It's not a bad book, just wasn't applicable to me

Maybe some concepts cross platform, but this is definitely for a woman breaking up, and a man who wants to avoid their wife's feeling unhappy.

Didn't like this at all - made me feel worse!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different writer ha!

Any additional comments?

Somehow this book actually made me feel WORSE! It appears to have been written by a child. Very very patronising. I found practically nothing of any real value in this. I feel a bit conned by this :( Breakups are hard enough without this nonsense.

Really helped me get through my breakup

This book helped me realizing that I was abused for a year, and helped me accepted and move on from my breakup. Working on the inventory is helping me not to repeat the same mistakes in my life. The affirmations list is also an amazing exercise to balance with the grieving and anxious thoughts... really helping!!! Thanks xx

Nothing Short of Amazing

Took me from shock, anguish & grief to acceptance and hope for my future... after a 25yr relationship to living single, I am thanking God for these tools to sew my life back together into a different yet still beautiful picture.... plenty of tears and enlightenment... I’ve learned that I am enough and even though I’ve got a lot of work to do, my life is facing uphill not down....

The Perfect Book When It's Time Move On

I was with my ex partner on and off for 7 years and desperately needed to find a way to make sure the most recent break up was the final one. I have found this book to be profoundly useful for not only getting over my ex once and for all but also helping me to create the life I dream of and deserve.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough for someone who is hurting yet ready to make a better life.

Made me feel WORSE!!!

Any additional comments?

This book somehow made me feel even worse about my rather horrible breakup I felt totally patronised, like i was made out to be a child for feeling upset. Silly book, really did not help me.

Didn't like it at all.

Would you try another book written by Susan J. Elliott or narrated by Laural Merlington?

The narration was fine, good actually, but the actual book was unfortunately of zero help to me. I wanted (/needed) help to get over my painful breakup, but unfortunately I most definitely did not find it here.

What will your next listen be?

Not sure yet.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed overall.

Awful book, absolutely zero help.

Would you try another book written by Susan J. Elliott or narrated by Laural Merlington?

Definitely not, never again.

What didn’t you like about Laural Merlington’s performance?

Dull.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

To be honest, it has a great cover - that is about it.

Any additional comments?

Heartache and breakups are hard enough without cliched patronising nonsense like this being on the market.

No help. No help at all. Avoid.

A defining moment in regaining control of my life

I had hoped in finding this book I would learn a few new "tricks" to easing the pain of working through a breakup and feel slightly better in the long term.

what I wasn't expecting was to read, learn and take on board both a mixture of desperately needed tough love mixed with digging deeper into me and finding my self worth.

through Susan's book and teachings I am begging to transform now only how I feel after the devastation of losing the person I love but a greater understanding about who I am and what I deserve in many "relationships" in life, including friends and family.

I truly believed I would feel broken forever but this book is helping me to feel happier and far more in control than I have in many years.

thank you Susan for helping me to understand that this hasn't ended me, it's helped me to understand I am only just getting started.
