Publisher's Summary

It was like seeing a ghost.

When my late husband’s twin brother moves back to our small town, I want to avoid him. Everything about Wes reminds me of the man I lost and the life we’d planned together, and after 18 long months struggling just to get out of bed, I’m finally doing okay. I have a new job, an amazing support group, and a beautiful five-year-old daughter to parent. I don’t want to go backward.

But I’m drawn to him, too. He understands my grief and anger and guilt like no one else - and I understand his. Before long, that understanding becomes desire, and that desire becomes uncontrollable.

He says he doesn't care what people think, and love can never be wrong. But life has taught me its cruelest lesson - love doesn't always win.

If only my heart would believe it.

A MOVING STORY OF LOSS, LOVE & SECOND CHANCES

Your heart will break.. your soul will bleed..and your spirits will soar. This was a deep and heartfelt story of when and how to move on after a shared loss.. but it’s also a story of second chances, hope and new beginnings. Because shy self-conscious Wes had met Hannah, the love of his life, first, had started a friendship with her and had been plucking up the courage to ask her out.. but it was his cocky confident identical twin brother Drew who’d swooped in and claimed her, married her and too soon left her a grieving widow. Now, after years of drowning his feelings working for Doctors Without Borders, Wes returns home.. he offers friendship to Hannah, to lend her emotional support and to be an uncle to his six year old niece Abby. Yes, Wes yearns for more but he’s realistic it’ll never happen. However, after three long years grieving, his return stirs mixed feelings for Hannah.. yes, Wes’ presence reminds her of her late husband and all she’s lost.. but, he also stirs up new feelings too. Their chemistry is intense and it can’t be ignored.. but dare Hannah risk her heart again, is it taboo to fall in love with your dead husband’s twin and will her mother-in-law who already dislikes her interfere? And will Wes finally fight for the woman who has always had his heart? This isn’t a ‘feel-good’ story.. and yet you feel good at the end of Wes and Hannah’s emotionally fraught anxiety-filled journey that ends with a very sweet romantic HEA. There’s a lot of inner emotional conflict as Hannah’s head and heart wage war on her already damaged psyche and it takes time, wise words.. and more before Hannah, Wes and Abby can finally forge a forever family. The storyline, chemistry, sex, angst and romance was all perfectly paced.. there’s a time to grieve alongside the characters for what they’d each lost, a time to tentatively hope for new beginnings, a time to swoon and a time worry.. but, in the end, there’s a time to rejoice that love overcame all. Worth a credit? This is a very different type of love story than I’m personally used to.. it’s moody, raw and real.. but there’s light.. and love.. and laughter at the end of this dual POV well narrated addictive love story that had me staying awake til silly o’clock in the morning. And yes, it’s creditworthy if you too are looking for a multi-layered forbidden love story filled with feels.

Boring, Juvenile, Undeveloped Storyline

I wonder whether this novel was written in a weekend...it was flat with static characters. It was difficult to respect or attach to any of the characters as they lacked...well, they simply lacked. It was too annoying to listen to. But the premise seemed intriguing. I wish authors recognized that as readers, we become invested in this material...and they should too. It's not about word count for us, nor is it about cranking out X number of manuscripts a year. Slow down and give us some quality, original material.

Book 4...you let me down...BIG TIME....spoiler

This story was sickening. Performance great as usual and the writing technique wonderful, but the actual story grossed me out and made it difficult to listen to. Either the story was not set up enough or call me crazy, but how do you fall in love with your dead husbands brother, almost from the start, it wasn't gradual it was oh wow his body is nice and he smells good let me jump his bones. Poor little child all confused why her mommy is kissing her uncle!! Just very weird all around and NOTHING like her other books. Just poor taste for this one in my opinion.

so much missed

so I wish there had been some drama: cat fight with moth in law, face slap or drink thrown with the home wrecker at the martini bar, bomb drop that Hannah was pregnant, maybe dad comes out to tell Hannah that he's always known Wes was in love with Hannah ... saw it on his face the day she married Drew and everytime he looked at her after that. There was just no meat on these ribs for us. There wasnt even sex in the lake. come on ...

Fantastic narration and an amazing story!

4.5 Love wins every time stars! Melanie Harlow does it again! This has everything, a little angst, a bit forbidden, a lot of steam and full of love. You’ll also love the surprise cameos too! Joe Aden and Virginia Rose’s narration was amazing! Highly recommend this must listen!

Uuuuuggggghhhh. What a waste of nine hours.

I’m forwarding through the majority of this book. So much whining and second guessing and being a doormat. The only reason I’m trying to finish is because Joe Arden is narrating. Otherwise it’s a total waste. The storyline had great potential but there’s no balance. Each character has their own level of frustrating. Too much frustration not enough resolution and moving forward. Beating a dead horse🙄
