Publisher's Summary

Kaylyn Anderson's fascination with abandoned places and dark creatures kindled her work as a paranormal investigator. But when dreams begin to distort reality, she questions what is real and pulls away from everyone she trusts. The opportunity to investigate the Teague Hotel - a long-abandoned landmark that has always piqued her curiosity - provides a chance to redeem herself. Unraveling the hotel's secrets won't be easy, but Kaylyn soon finds herself the target of a dark entity that has been trapped in the building for decades.

If Kaylyn stands any chance of defeating the spirit, she'll have to accept that her fears are real and convince fellow investigators that she hasn't lost her mind.

A Supernatural Thriller With Firebrand MC

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary review.*

3.5 / 5

This book was pretty good - not excellent, but not terrible either. It was a rather quick read as well. For a supernatural story, the story elements played heavily on the human reaction and experience, rather than hone in on the supernatural entities. I really liked the story following this route, as we were able to get inside the head of the MC and her sister. While I did enjoy, I do not believe I was the target audience for this. I would still recommend to any fan of supernatural thriller stories.

Fractured Legacy

This is an interesting tale dealing with paranormal investigations. The way things unfolded definitely kept my interest... while things started out fairly simple, they quickly escalated.

I would be very interested in seeing where Skye Callahan would take things as a series.

Gwendolyn Druyor did a great job with the narration. Very entertaining!

I wanted more detail.

Overall I enjoyed this novel, but I would've liked more detail and a bit more characterization. The story introduces Kaylyn and Cole, sisters who work for a nebulously described company that investigates paranormal kerfuffles. It feels like Cole is moved off stage pretty quickly so that Kaylyn can develop a relationship with their new boss, who has been sent to potentially fire them for not living up to their potential, which also feels thinly established in the story. I suspect that a lot more details on the characters, the company, the work they've done, etc. will be forthcoming in the series, but part of the job of a first book in the series is to set up enough information about the main characters that you get invested in them. This book is right on the line for me regarding character investment. I might grab the next in the series, but might not.
