Publisher's summary

The Argent Peak Sect has proved to be a place of wonder as well as danger.

Awoken as an Immortal, Ling Qi must contend with her peers on the mountain now that the great truce enforced by the Elders of the Sect is no longer in effect. In an Outer Sect increasingly falling into two camps, her friendships have made where she stands clear. To continue climbing the steep mountain of cultivation and maintain the friendships and allies she had gathered to her side, she must strive like never before. But it soon becomes clear that there is someone watching her from the shadows...someone with an unhealthy interest in her advancement.

Enemies lie in full sight and out of reach as well. Now comes the test of the foundation she built in her early months at the Sect. Will it be enough to support her through the turbulent Outer Sect?

Inspired by ancient folklore, modern martial arts, and Xianxia, Forge of Destiny cultivates a world both fantastic in setting yet familiar in the humanity of its inhabitants. Don't miss this second installment of one of the most popular titles on Royal Roads - with more than seven million reads - elegantly performed by Earphones Award-winning voice artist Natalie Naudus.

A good sequel

I enjoyed this book, but there was a little more YA interpersonal drama than I would have preferred. However, the drama was heaviest at the beginning of the novel but seemed to decrease in throughout. Regardless, the other elements of the book made up for this minor annoyance. I have already started the 3rd book, I am only a few hours in, and I am already enjoying it far more than this one. I strongly suspect I will be buying the 4th book shortly. I would also like to add, I feel the narrator's performance has improved in this book.

Good book about Qi

Once you learn each of the names it gets even better it is also nice that it’s a saga so you can follow her travels for a bit and explore more in the world of Chi. If you enjoyed crouching Tiger, hidden dragon, this is similar.

Good fun.

I have recently found how much I enjoy the genre of cultivation fantasy books. That said, this is only the second author I find I can enjoy besides Will Wight. The first book I felt hesitant on but this one has me sold on getting the third. If you're a Wight fan, I can't say this will quite hit that bar but it's definitely worth a credit.

Great Continuation

It is a great follow up to the first book. It's slow in some places but it still keeps your attention.

An anime in Audio book format!

This was fantastic... I hope there will be more of it. The descriptions are very detailed. Visualizing the characters comes naturally with an intense attention to detail. The performance was perfect. She had a destinct voice for ever character. (there are many!)

Continues to be a solid Cultivation series

I really like this series. It's just, it's very refreshing to me, how much emphasis is put onto the story, the emotions, and the culture of cultivation, moreso than I've seen with other novels in the genre. I mentioned this in my previous review, but the fact that the author actually considers how cultivating for spiritual enlightenment, would necessarily rely on you actually improving yourself as a person, and overcoming your mental issues and baggage, is incredibly refreshing, and fitting for the genre!

The amount of relationship development, is equal to the amount of just regular power growth, and the balance makes for a really enjoyable read.

My thoughts on this book are basically on par with my thoughts on the first one. I don't really have anything new to say here.

Solidly written, solidly paced. My only issue, is the names, and how I have difficulty remembering who is who, when the names are rattled off back to back, very quickly.

Hidden Gem

New to me author and was not disappointed! This is a wonderful story, good characters, and I love the authors focus on character over general plot. Don’t get me wrong, there is a plot, but time spent on development of character is beautifully balanced within the plot. I loved it! On to book 3!

Solid 4 stars but slow for me

I liked this second book for what it was but it is way too slow for my taste and I am not sure I will continue. Both books so far have been a little to slice of life for me and less a cultivation fantasy. After 40 hrs we are still only halfway thru the first year at the sect and still in the second realm. There is no overall bigger plot being set up outside the sect as far as i can tell. Basically its not a bad book to kill time with but not amazing and is really really slow and lacking a bigger overall plot to drive things forward.
