Publisher's summary

The tournament is past, the Inner Sect achieved, and Ling Qi has chosen the path of her life going forward.

Retainer to the heir of the province, an absurd step up from a girl who lived on the street a year before. Now she faces a strange prospect, peace. There are no great tournaments in her immediate future, no desperate battles to maintain her station. Formal duels and skill challenges just aren't the same. But she has much to learn, and now that she has proven herself, the Argent Peak Sect has much to teach an inner disciple.

With her first great hurdle past, Ling Qi will find her greatest challenge might just be her own self, and whether she can adhere to the ideals she has chosen.

Inspired by ancient folklore, modern martial arts and Xianxia, this fantasy novel offers a mixture of life and action while developing a world both fantastic in setting yet familiar in the humanity of its inhabitants.

A great start for the next phase

I really enjoy this series. This book is, essentially, a "book one" despite picking up right after the third book. What I mean is, there's a lot of setup for future conflicts and growth but little overarching conflict within the novel itself. There's some excellent character growth though.
The only real "gripes" I have are a lot of the cultivation happens off-screen and the number of time-skips in the beginning. However, this does ultimately help with pacing at some points and I understand why it was written this way.
Highly recommended! I can't wait for the next one.

Another Page Turner

I love the world building and the way the characters remain complex. It's also great that there isn't romance just yet. The epilogue gives me hope that the main character has a lot of greatness coming.

lgbqt terms were unnecessery

it's strange to use modern gender terms in book about chinese cultivation story. it destroys immersiveness of story.
there are other modern time words which also are unnecessery and disrupts the flow of story. is it translation issues?
this book feels a bit different from previous, are there some co-authors? some parts of story are comics-like and goes against the style of previous books.
still, solid continuation to the previous books, even if a bit wobbly. the end feels a bit forced: deadline issues?

Fantastic book but could use a little more

After the first two books, the storyline has gotten very political. I understand the importance however, we get chapters of things not so important. I know the author has to add it so its not just ling qi getting power spike after power spike. I just wish there was more focus on general cultivation and bai meizhen.

Continuing Excellence

This latest installment does not disappoint! More character progession, deepening plot. As our heroine's relationships develop further, so do her social skills (thank goodness!). The story is becoming more complex, reflecting the more nuanced understanding and growth the protagonist has achieved. Yet, despite her mighty accomplishments, it is clear that, while gifted, she is definitely not OP, and has a long way to go on her personal quest for strength. Now, as she begins to truly mature, the wider world and it's intricate politics are finally making an impression on her, as she realizes her eventual duties will bring her further into existing conflicts that she is only now beginning to understand. This book finishes the beginning story arc while introducing a new story arc, so look for the usual fast-paced action and detailed world-building, all while building a whole new level of intrigue and mysterious backgrounds.

nothing but love for this story

It really is one of the better books in its class. It handles combat and growth better than most. The combat is exciting without taking forever. I also appreciate the setting. The author and voice actor dona amazing job of showing you this world and you can really see it.
