Publisher's summary

When Emersyn fled the big city for a quieter life in the Midwest, she left all her troubles behind - or so she thought. She quickly discovers her quaint new home has a past of its own.

Ten years prior, a young woman killed herself inside the front door. Since that fateful day, the locals avoided the house. Not one to believe in the supernatural, Emersyn and a new friend take it upon themselves to conduct a seance for answers.

They get much more than they bargained for when they awaken an ancient evil - the same evil that haunted the past resident. Now they must scramble with little time to stop it.

When Emersyn's past comes back to haunt her and innocent people get hurt, she has nowhere to turn - until a police officer inserts himself into her life. Together they will do what they can to put an end to the deadly shadows forever.

Can evil this powerful ever truly die?

A truly flawed and unrealistic story that couldn’t even turn into a B movie.

The trio of main characters included the new caucasian girl whose besties are a gay male and a Mexican female. Points for the diverse group and props for a witch doctor. The splashes of phrases or sentences in a different language kept this at a solid two star book.

The characters weren’t really fleshed nor deep.

A cop taking a person home (his home) from an accident scene was ludicrous. Statements, maybe? No. A check with a doctor? No.
Being terrified and thinking about the attractive cop? Eyeroll.

I didn’t like it and regret picking it up. It felt like a story written on the fly and not taken seriously.

The narration was so-so. At times it was okay. But most of it sounded like it was read in an empty room or into a microphone. There were a few repeated sentences.

The prologue, which is the Madison/Billy story ... well. It didn’t add value or credibility.

I wouldn’t even recommend it for a Halloween quick creepy book. So although it was “okay”, it’s more clearly not for me. I’m really glad I didn’t pick up Kept at the same time. I’ll pass.
