Publisher's summary

"It isn’t easy to write a protagonist that blends the best qualities of Anita Blake and Stephanie Plum, but Kim Harrison carries it off with style. This is a fun book! Read it!" (Jim Butcher, number one New York Times best-selling author)

In the Hollows, the vampires come out to play...and it’s always witching hour.

The first book in number one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison’s Hollows series!

All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party...and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining - and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and a witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead...or undead.

Good story but main character is annoying

Don’t read/listen if you don’t like annoying and immature characters. Seriously I think I hate Rachel. Having said that the storyline is pretty good and I hate that you have to experience it through her POV. My advice is to get familiar with the fast forward button, it’s a godsend when she gets unbearable.
Narrator is great.

Janks and his family make a lot of it bearable.

Now I remember why i stopped listening to these

The overall story is really good and i enjoy it a lot but the main character is so annoying. Constantly getting angry and taking it out on others for no reason, stepping over lines without thought for anyone but herself, not taking advice or listening to anyone else which lands herself and others in peril......I could go on but you get the point. I realize there are a lot of main leads that do this but it's constant with her and so irritating that it's not worth it. Hate to do it but I'm returning the book.

A witch, a vampire and a pixie walk into a bar....

What a wonderful romp in a fun world. A new twist at every turn and an education in how not to get a vampire all hot and bothered. I had read other books in this series and had never been disappointed. This is an enjoyable listen and leaves you wanting to follow the characters in their future adventures.

Awesome series!!

Definitely not romance genre. Urban Fantasy maybe. ??? Idk. Excellent storyline. Lots of humor and interesting characters. I love this book. I am very excited to grab the next in line.

Unholy tomatoes and pixie dust

Jim Butcher was right: this is like Anita Blake meets Stephanie Plum. Book one drags a bit setting up the eventual magical Scooby gang led by Rachel, the witch with a bounty on her head. But, this is even more fun to hear in Audible than when I first discovered the series twenty years ago. It mostly stands up, although there are occasional dated references (like humming to the Miami Vice soundtrack).

I’d give it zero stars if I could…

I don’t get it. This book is wordy, very slow to get to any type of point and boring to boot. I have tried listening multiple times and I just can’t find the plot. I even tried slowing the narration down thinking maybe she just talks too fast… nope. Don’t waste your money on this one!

not my cup of tea

wasn't bad, wasn't good. don't need to buy more. characters are mildly interesting. story feels a little uninspired. good for the drive home. not really interested in the series.

Dead Witch Walking

The story got off to a slow start but I was drawn in pretty quickly. So, I'll probably read the next one to see if it's a series I really like.

Awesome characters! Wonderful narration!

Great interesting story, intriguing and flawed but lovable characters, and the narrator is amazing with her character voices and reading. She puts the characters personality in the narration so well. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series!
