Destroying Soul

Jace has lived a horrible life since his wife died until he meets Kitt even then he still experiences horror (you have to listen to the ending to find out) . This is a dark, scary paranormal romance with horror. It not only has a ghost but demons and full of suspenseful twist and turns. Recommend if you enjoy a suspenseful thriller with some romance. Not Bad, But Not the Best Paranormal Thriller

I found this book to be only okay plot wise. It started out very slowly and I only stuck in there because I agreed to listen to this book in exchange for an unbiased review - if I had bought the book with no commitment to listen, I would have stopped. There was quite a bit of romance in this thriller, which would have been fine with me if it had been balanced out with much more horror/paranormal/thriller aspects that weren't directly tied to the romance.

The best part of this listen was the narrator - Mittelstedt does a fantastic job with the voice acting. The characters were distinct in tone and accent, allowing the listener to understand who was speaking without the character being named.

Finally, the ending was quite a cliff hanger - an obvious attempt to get the reader to keep listening to the series. I understand the desire to do this, but all it's done is cement the fact that I'm not listening to another whole book to get the answers I wanted to get in this first book.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Dark and intense

Unique story. Very intense and dark paranormal listen with unexpected spots of humor. I loved the story and the characters, Jace especially was a very complex and intriguing character. Does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. Will definitely be looking for further books in the series, can’t wait to see where it goes. The narrator gave an amazing performance and made the listening experience. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Horror/Paranormal/Romance or somewhere between

I'm not exactly sure where to categorize this book. It is more horror with some paranormal with enough romance to even go in that category. All in all, it wasn't a bad story. It took me a minute to get where they were going with this wife situation (and I was wrong most of the time anyway), but that was one of the alluring things about it.

The story in a nutshell is, there's this guy whose wife killed herself a while ago and now she's haunting him. Literally. He's running away, or attempting to practice great avoidance of her family because they believe that he killed her and are trying to ensure that he's extremely miserable. Enter a girl who eventually opens up to him and accepts him and all the craziness that comes with it.

There are butt kicking battles, ominous moments and enough romance that you wouldn't know that someone could pretty much die any minute. Even though there are parts of this book that are full of cheese, the romance wasn't so overbearing that it became a distraction from the plot. I'd like to say that it easily supplemented it and became a part of the ending... which wasn't wrapped up nice and neat... The ending was open, which isn't bad if you like that kind of thing...This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this review voluntarily.

Speechless

This book was amazing and nothing like I expected with so many twists and turns. The author did such a great job with the characters and bringing them to life with such incredible dimension. And the narrator did a great job with this story too. I found the many roles he spoke to be easy to follow and become one with.

Wow just wow and I am not sure what to do now that I have finished book one. It truly was a ride

Wow! Absolutely Amazing!

I was provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narraror.

Wow! This was such a thrilling listen. The story was beyond anything I was expecting. I was instantly intrigued with this story and it had so many twists, turns, and unexpected revelations. I loved Jake's character. I couldn't image the things he went through and was still suffering from.

Jace was found not guilty in the suicide of his wife. But it hasn't stopped his wife's family from harassing him and keep him from moving on. It was hard seeing him suffer everyday and the torture he goes through at home. But Kit makes him want to stop running and share his dark past with her and his two friends Skylar and Zane. The ending was great although it ended rather abruptly. Buy I'm dying to read more this series.

The narration was very good and I loved listening to this audiobook. Edward Mittelstedt has a great voice and I liked how he sounds. He did an excellent job showing the frustration, anger, and fear Jace went through.

This is great book full of suspense and lots of hints to the paranormal. I does remind me of a certain scary movie I will not name as it will give away a big plot twist. But this is an easy 5 star read.

Oh my!

Wow, what a unique, twisted story! Totally out of the norm, what you think you’re about to read is the complete opposite!

Starting out a relationship in the not best ways, Jas and Kit find themselves not just fighting for them to be together but to stay alive! So many factors are against them but one that is really not helping is Jas’s dead wife.

I could go on and say to much more but you really need to get into this story and find out for yourself how twisted this authors imagination really is!

Soul Wrenching

An amazing story beautifully narrated! My heart shattered and my soul aches for what is to come for Jace and Kitt whom I have come to love. The narration helped to send me to Texas and made me believe I was actually sitting there listening to each character speak.

Yes! Complex and mind-blowing

Now I’m wondering if the other books in the series are at least as good as this one or if they are even better. I’ve finished it last night and I am still shaken up by all the events happening. This book does not give you a moment of peace and tranquility. It goes from one event to the next, it is freaking good! (both freaking and freaking good!).

The plot follows Jace Camden, whose wife passed away 5 years ago and since then he has not found a moment of silence. Her family follows him around, constantly accusing him of murder, while doctors hurry up to declare him insane. Little do they know he has another fight going on. But is he the only one fighting? By far, this is one of the most engaging books I’ve ever read.

Jace is one complex character. His fear of getting close to others has two causes, one of which is his to deal with. His late wife’s family is constantly trying to ruin all connections he manages to find, but the funny thing is he is good at it all alone. With Laura’s ghost as a constant presence, he has difficulties keeping friends close. All changes when Kitt Thomas decides to take a chance on him. This time he is not alone, this time he has people who are willing to help.

I am afraid of giving up too much, yet I want to somehow give you an understanding of how really great his book is! Mental illness is present in the book as well, as Jace is one step closer to being sent to a mental institution. However, his need to open up, his friends willing to help (or not willing to abandon him as all usually do) are one constant that keeps him anchored in this world. Even if something else is calling him to the other side.

I was this close to give it 4 stars. Last night I was so furious! At one point, Jace’s past is too fast revealed to the others too fast and there is one sex scene that in my opinion was a little too much. These two elements unnerved me so much because the entire book is so well written and just these two silly moments did not stay well with me. But I cannot, because several hours have passed and I am still thinking this was an awesome story!

From the audio perspective, even if the narrator did not do that well with the voice acting, there are some effects here and there, like a weird laughter, and the main character’s desperation is well captured and well transmitted to the listener.

I apologize for the long review, but there are so many things to say about this book. I cannot wait to get to the next one! Please give it a try and come back and let me know what you think. Oh, the end is also mind-blowing! I loved it – 5 stars, no doubt!
