Publisher's Summary

Fall in love with a mysterious and tortured hero in this number-one New York Times best-selling author's steamy, suspenseful romance about an "irresistible" (Booklist) British alpha and the one woman who may be able to save him - as long as he can protect her from his dark past.

Izzy White knows of the darkness in this world. After all, she escaped it long ago. Determined not to let her past beat her, Izzy has a secure, stable life with a job she loves in nursing. But one act of kindness will completely upend everything she's so carefully built - putting her right back in the crosshairs of danger she's been so desperate to avoid.

When Theo Kane shows up like a knight in shining armor, Izzy can't help thinking she's been saved from one threat and exposed to another. His imposing physique, the harsh lines of his face, and the wariness of everyone who comes close are just a few clues to Theo Kane's notorious reputation. The man is positively terrifying. But with Izzy, he's tender and a complete gentleman, and her fascination with the mysterious beast of a man becomes too powerful for her to walk away.

As Theo's demons come to light, running becomes even more impossible. And yet staying together could doom them both.

Critic Reviews

"Malpas's sexy love scenes scorch the page, and her sensitive, multilayered hero and heroine will easily capture readers' hearts. A taut plot and a first-rate lineup of supporting characters make this a keeper." (Publishers Weekly)

"A magnetic mutual attraction, a superalpha, and long-buried scars that are healed by love. Theo is irresistible." (Booklist)

Gentleman sinner not soo....😞

I would like to start with that I love this author. I have listened to and read almost all her books. This book was very disappointed to me. Izzy White is 90% of the book and only 10% Theo Kane. Too much of her and not enough of Theo. Over 15 hours and I could barely finished it. I think if they did in half the time to get to the point. To much of saying the same things over and over again. To predictable. Guess the whole story before it ended. Not like the other books where it has you wanting more. For me I just wanted it to end. 😔

Entertaining

I enjoyed the story, i thought at a moment it was going to be similar to something else I’ve read however it was surprisingly different.
The voices of the people that read the book were very good choice!

Sadly disappointed

The characters never seemed happy until the very end. Although pleasant to listen to Julie Garthan just sounded too young. Jack George only does the epilogue. It would have been nice to have more from his characters pov.

WTH?

How can this be the same writer of My Queen series? Ghost wittier? Half the content insults a decent readers ability to use comprehension.

Seriously disappointed and hope she waits to release any others until she goes back to some of her good writing and figures out what went wrong.

Not Up To Scratch

I love Jody Ellen Malpas's stories. In this one, her character development is poor, their actions unrealistic and the story line simplistic. The main characters waver from one extreme to another. Both, from strong to wimpy. Having inner demons is one thing, but strength of character is another. I was very dissapointed. I read other reviews that had similar reactions, but because of my love for the author's writing, gave it a chance. I hope that her next story is back to her previous standards. Also, the application of CPR and resuscitation required better research.

The female narrator ruined it!

Usually I love Jodi and all her books but I could not make it through the first couple of chapters because of the female narrator. Which means I couldn't even make it to the chapters or chapter Jack George narrated! Why didn't she just let him narrate the whole book...I LOVED him in the "This man" series. Ugh! I am so disappointed. Please Jodi if you are looking at these reviews at all, do not use this female narrator EVER again, I'm sorry but she ruined the whole book.

Exceptional from Beginning to End

I have been looking for a book that would keep my attentions, and this book does it! The complexity of every character, the struggles, the pain were all relatable and the rises and falls to the story, were magnificent. I recommend this book several times over!
In addition, the Narrators did a splendid job bringing the story to life.

Another tear jerker ...two tortured souls brought together by fate

At first, I had a hard time getting into the book...I felt it reminded me of ‘The Man’ series...It was like Florence Nightingale curing the Beast . It started getting better half way through...I wish the male narrator did more than the last chapter. Love his voice...This was one book that made me want more after finishing it....seems like another spin off fo Jesse and Callum...
