Publisher's Summary

Stranded in the Amazon rainforest, a lost man fights for survival and discovers that the root of evil doesn’t just reside in the world’s darkest corners, but inside the hearts of all mankind. Dr. Gregory Zekser is on a mission to visit the furthest reaches of the Amazon, providing medical aid to recently contacted tribes.

As a general practitioner and food pantry director, his life in Massachusetts can be chaotic, but serving people is what he does best, and he doesn’t mind sacrificing his personal life to help others, at home or half way around the world. But any hope of returning home to his wife, daughter, and comfortable life are eradicated when the small plane carrying him back to civilization plummets into the unknown depths of the jungle.

Swallowed by endless green, with both pilots dead, Greg struggles to stay alive in a world that wants to infect his body, suck him dry, and eat him whole. Ravaged by illness and dehydration, and stalked by a ruthless predator, Greg’s life teeters on the edge of oblivion until a scream lets him know that he is not alone.

His first encounter with an uncontacted tribe ends in death - the first of many. Driven to the brink of madness, and then beyond, Greg finds himself caught up in a feud that existed before his arrival, but will only end with his death - or his enemies’.

International best-selling author, Jeremy Robinson, the master of taking creative and original concepts and fusing them with realistic and emotive characters, explores the depths to which a man can descend, and what it takes to climb back out.

An amazing glimpse into the dark heart of humanity

Was absolutely unsure what to expect from Alter. Was it like Tarzan, Lost, Avatar? I could not have been more wrong. I have never read anything like this before.

You follow Dr Greg Zekser through his struggle to survive in one of the harshest and most dangerous environments on Earth. The ancient and mostly unexplored jungles of the Amazon. After surviving a horrific plane crash he is forced to face and overcome the worst that the Amazon can throw at him. During the course of his journey and to survive he begins to change, alter, devolve...

I refuse to say more to avoid spoilers, but I'm a 49 year old bloke and I was wrecked by the end of this. I was in tears during the final chapter.

Luke Daniels is one of the best narrators out there and was perfect for this simply amazing glimpse in the dark heart of humanity by Jeremy Robinson. If this doesn't win awards there is something seriously wrong.

Incredible story!

I can't recommend this highly enough. The story was so well written and engrossing. That combined with the incredible performance of the narrator Luke Daniels, I was blown away. I was so drawn into this story that it felt like it was over before I knew it.

When you are forced to unleash your inner beast

- Josh here

What an awesome tale that takes you through the transformation of Greg after his plane crashes in the Amazon. I quite enjoyed listening to the different adaptations that occur as he befriends a local tribeswoman and his version of the human condition is forced to evolve.

Luke did a fantastic job narrating this story and I was immediately drawn to the shift in perspective later in the book. I gladly give this book a five-star rating as Jeremy continues to deliver stories that keep me hooked. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

An old premise presented well and engaging.

Not what I usually look for, but was very entertained. The narration was well done.

5 stars is not enough!

I've listened to a few of Robinson's books so far. I've enjoyed them all but I absolutely LOVE Alter. This may be one of my favorite books ever. I did not expect to enjoy this story as much as I did. I can't recommend it enough.

Only as good as the narration

This is one of those stories that relies heavily on great narration. The story itself is exciting, and original. But, to make it really good it needed a better story teller. The telling felt standard, and I just felt it didn't make the story, or characters as good as they could have been.

I'd recommend as a good listen while you're looking for your next great listen.
