Publisher's summary

A master of terror and nightmarish visions, H.P. Lovecraft solidified his place at the top of the horror genre with this macabre supernatural tale.

When a geologist leads an expedition to the Antarctic plateau, his aim is to find rock and plant specimens from deep within the continent. The barren landscape offers no evidence of any life form - until they stumble upon the ruins of a lost civilization. Strange fossils of creatures unknown to man lead the team deeper, where they find carved stones dating back millions of years. But it is their discovery of the terrifying city of the Old Ones that leads them to an encounter with an untold menace.

Deliberately told and increasingly chilling, At the Mountains of Madness is a must-have for every fan of classic terror.

Amazing Insight Into the Lovecraftian Mythos

Any additional comments?

Intriguing insight into the Lovecraftian cosmic mythos (no spoilers). What stood out the most IOP, was the autopsy performed on one of the deceased Cthulhu creatures and all the history uncovered by Professor William Dyer and his crew.

Meh

I love narrator Ed Herrman and bought this book to hear the language and older plot. While I found it full of description, I didn't find a compelling storyline. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Good book and Edward Hermann is exceptional.

I can't say enough about Edward Hermann's abilities. I could listen to him all day. He brings the book alive.

Great Story, Great Performance, Great Price

I prefer to listen to longer books on Audible, but I saw this on sale and realized that I hadn't ever read it. I gave it a listen over the course of two days at work and man, was I impressed. The narrator does a great job and the format/style of story really lend itself to the audio format. I initially thought that due to the low price I would get a subpar product, but quite the opposite. Absolutely worth your time if you're at all interested!

Very descriptive

There are just too many descriptions that are overly detailed and they ramble. Descriptions are good but fewer words would do.

The story is a little bizarre and not entirely agreeable for my taste.

It might have been better if there were dialogue.

I’ve been to Antarctica and it’s beautiful, never thought the penguin poop smell would ever come out
