Publisher's Summary

In New York Times best-selling author Kay Hooper's novel, an SCU team investigates a troubling string of disappearances. But how do you find someone who has vanished without a trace?

Something strange is happening in the small mountain town of Serenity, Tennessee. People going on routine errands never reach their destination. It's as if they simply disappear. Over the past few weeks, it's happened to five men and women - and now a child.

The local police chief calls the FBI, and a team from the Special Crimes Unit is immediately sent in. Agents Lucas and Samantha Jordan, partners in work and in life, have very different abilities. Samantha is clairvoyant and Lucas possesses a unique ability to find the lost or abducted. With them are new partners Dante Swann, a medium, and Robbie Hodge, a telepath.

The town is already on the edge of panic, but the mysterious events take a sinister turn when a body unrelated to the missing persons case surfaces and one of the SCU agents vanishes. Now, the team's hunt for the lost has turned into something very personal...and very dangerous.

Suspenseful Psychic Mystery

As a general rule I'm not big into psychic or occult books but Kay Hooper has such s good writing style and perspective that her books come off as very believable.
This is one of the new Bishop Files series books which goes back to before previously written books. It's kind of nice because it gives background to some of the characters I have read about but had no background.
In this book townspeople have started to disappear after dark. The kidnapper has abilities that confound the special investigators but in the end you know who comes out on top but there is a sad and surprise of an ending.
Joyce Bean narrates most of Kay Hooper's books and as always does a fantastic job.
Very very good and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Fear of the Dark

I really like the Bishop series. My wife listened with me. She said of all the books in the series this is her favorite. Some of the abilities in this book are similar t things I could d when I was younger. Knowing what people were going to say before they did. Knowing what my wife would look like and what state she was born in ten years before we met..

Wondering.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listened to the whole book only because I wanted to find out if I was correct in my guess as to why these people were taken. It's amazing that all these people with special gifts or talents are always either extremely handsome or gorgeous beyond belief. It was an okay kind of book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I haven't read the last few Bishop/Special Crimes Unit so I am not up on all the characters. I was kind of lost wondering if a couple of the people had been in a previous book

Did Joyce Bean do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I enjoy Joyce Bean and her audio work. She is a very good narrator and I know she does a great job differentiating all of the characters. Her voice is part of the reason I kept listening to this book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

First do no harm

This series is not for me although the author is a good one, the subject matter just is just not my genre. Narrator, Joyce been is excellent in the story, which was why I purchased it.
If you like characters that are in the psychic realm then this series is for you.

This book will remind you why we fear the dark!

I love this story just like all the rest of them! I miss the partner connect In this one a bit but not enough to miss up and excellent read! It was creepy on a basic primeval level. Loved the new characters! Even though I miss Hollis! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Short but good

Love almost anything Kay writes, good stuff. Ending made me cry, unexpected... but overall I enjoyed it.

Surprising

I did not realize this book was short. Simple setting, but eerie and full of suspense. Best one yet. Joyce Bean is the best narrator in this series.

Weak

I felt like this story was written by someone on a deadline with no good ideas. Just not as involved and interesting as most of the other "Bishop" books. I struggled to finish it.
