Three devious prisoners vow murderous revenge. Now the first is free.

It was inescapably chilling, as if the murderer was methodically working his way down a page torn from the phone book. The three victims brutally killed in their own homes had one thing in common: They were all listed as M. Douglas. The fact that Mara Douglas is next on the list has her jumping at shadows, until FBI agent Aidan Shields shows up to make sure she doesn't become the fourth victim.

Aidan has been out of commission since an undercover operation went bad more than a year ago. Back on the job, his razor-sharp instincts are returning. But it will take all of Aidan's wits to stay one step ahead of the elusive killer who has engaged him in a deadly game - a game in which Mara's life is the prize. A game only one can win....

I enjoyed the storyline, the characters, and the narrators voice. Overall, a very good cop drama. A little too much romance for me, but still good.

Entertaining!

I don't understand why narrators try to sound like someone else instead of just telling the story in their own natural voice. and don't sound like you're actually "reading" a script, so annoying.

This is a terrific mystery with lots of twists and turns. The characters are believable. I kept guessing, changing my mind, then guessing again. You really can't wait to get to each chapter.

This one isn't going to have anyone raving about how incredible it is but I'm happy to have stumbled upon it and look forward to the second in the series. The pace of this book is a bit slower than I enjoy; not much of a "thriller"; however, my interest was held enough that I looked forward to each opportunity to listen. Solid story line and fitting narration. Worth the credit for sure, especially for those who enjoy legal intricacies and witty protagonists.

This reader, Terri Schnaubelt, has a pleasant voice. Still, she makes each voice distinctive. Even the male voices are done well, which is rare in female narration.

The story setup and characters are very similar to those by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. Their books are sometimes co-written or written as alternate books or novellas in a series. Most feature many of the same characters in the same town, and often feature a related character while other characters in the town make appearances when it is not their turn as the lead character. I got the distinct impression that this is the pattern for future books in the series.

While I enjoy that format, it and the writing, pacing, characters and such lead me to wonder if this is the non-kindle unlimited version of their work. The others are mostly free on kindle unlimited in both book and kindle form, just under a different pen name. It’s worth the credit if you enjoy the those authors and Terri Schnaubelt’s reading. I do. One star off for being just a paid version of the other books. But I guess this gives them a wider audience and more revenue, since it can be offered to other digital booksellers and is not exclusive to kindle, as kindle unlimited books must be.

Pleasant Listen
