Publisher's Summary

In this tantalizing thriller from a number one New York Times best-selling author, a woman uncovers lifelong secrets as she searches for the truth behind her father's involvement in a heist gone wrong.

Twenty years ago in the dead of night, four seemingly random individuals pulled the ultimate heist and almost walked away with half a million dollars. But by daybreak, their plan had been shot to hell. One of them was in the hospital. One was in jail. One was dead. And one got away with it.

Arden Maxwell, the daughter of the man who disappeared all those years ago - presumably with the money, after murdering his accomplice - has never reconciled with her father's abandonment of her and her sister. After countless personal setbacks, she decides to return to her family home near mysterious Caddo Lake and finally get answers to the many questions that torment her. Little does she know, two of her father's co-conspirators - a war hero and a corrupt district attorney - are watching her every move.

Ledge Burnet, a rebellious teen at the time of the heist, evaded his jail sentence by enlisting in the army. Now he's back in town to care for his ailing father - and to keep his eye on the county's corrupt district attorney, whom he suspects was the real murderer. Although the two are bound to silence because of the crime they committed together, each has spent years waiting and hoping that the other will make a fatal misstep. But the arrival of their elusive accomplice's daughter, Arden, who may know more about the missing money than she's telling, sets them both on red alert. She ignites Ledge's determination to expose the DA's treachery...and sparks a desire he wishes to deny.

Too Vulgar

Gripping story, but too many evil characters/ darkness and way too much taking the Lord's Name in Vain.

Boring and predictable

I have enjoyed Sandra Brown novels. Just not this one. At one point my husband recited the lines as the narrator spoke them it was that predictable. The overall idea was good but this story could have happened in a three to four hour book.

Disappointed

I like other books by Sandra but this story, it's characters and the ending were lack luster.

Save your time and money

Possible spoilers:

I really didn’t like this book. I’m not sure if it was the story or who it was being narrated by or both. I have always enjoyed Sandra Brown books in the past and am shocked by my extreme dislike of this book.
The story wasn’t believable, the main character were blah and I didn’t care what happened to any of them.

Narrator wasn’t right for this book

The story was ok but the narration ruined it for me. The woman’s voice he used was so annoying that the love story became an odd joke. Distracting rather than interesting. Disappointed. Would not recommend.

Very Dark

Not sure if it was the story or the narrator but this was the darkest novel I ever heard/read from Sandra Brown...I would have liked to have guessed about the antagonist more but the surprise ending made up for the early disclosure.

Tried to like it

I struggled to finish this book. The characters weren’t likeable and the story wasn’t interesting. I usually love Sandra Brown books but this is going back.

Very good Audible book

I read a couple negative reviews about this book and I am glad to report that I don't agree with them... I enjoyed the plot, Narration & the interesting twists along the way... Especially at the end... Get the book... It won't disappoint you...

The worst!

This is the 2nd Sandra Brown book I’ve listened to. I enjoyed Outfox so I was looking forward to listening to Thick as Thieves. This book was bad on a few levels & I asked myself why I was finishing the book several times. (Because I needed to know what happened!) There were some parts of the story that were so unimaginative & uncreative. Parts of the character dialogue ran really flat. One of the main characters, Ledge, was base & disgusting in his crassness- it epitomized the loser pig male stereotype. I don’t enjoy sex scenes in any book I read/listen to and skip over them, but even the lead-ins to these ones were just awful. So cheesy & pathetic. Lots of unnecessary bad language (f-word esp). Narration was fine except for Ledge’s voice. And since Ledge had a lot of audio-time, it was grating. Grating voice, grating character, grating book. I probably won’t give another Sandra Brown book a try after this.

One of Brown’s best!

I have read just about every newer Sandra Brown novel. And this one does not disappoint! The storytelling is amazingly well written, it leaves you guessing with every chapter. This is my first time listening to Kyf as the narrator but I think he does an exceptionally well performance. Highly recommend!
