Publisher's Summary

Kay Hooper’s flair for storytelling and her broad mastery of genre are apparent in her electrifying novels. Her many works include modern and historical romances, fantasies, mysteries, gothic novels, and, like Out of the Shadows, suspense thrillers featuring psychic ability.

The small, friendly town of Gladstone, Tennessee seems the ideal place to raise a family - until two teenagers are found tortured to death. Sheriff Miranda Knight will do anything to make her small town safe again, even if it means calling in Noah Bishop, the FBI’s psychic profiler. The last time she and Noah combined their psychic powers, she was almost destroyed. Now she must learn to trust him again, or she will most certainly die at the hands of the monster who’s stalking her town.

Narrator C.J. Critt breathes life into the beautiful psychic sheriff with paranormal powers and transforms this exciting blend of romance, mystery, and suspense into an exciting listening experience.

From the first read is to love Hooper thriller.

I will be honest. Hooper's romances left me bored. Reading her paranormal thrillers left me stoked and looking for more. Always a good read.

Great Story, Horrible Narration

What made the experience of listening to Out of the Shadows the most enjoyable?

The end of it. The narrator was just horrible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of the Shadows?

Bishop coming up over the hill into Gladstone. Makes me smile.

Would you be willing to try another one of C. J. Critt’s performances?

Not if i can help it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The interplay among Bishop's team is always good. These books (despite their usually depressing subject matter) usually make me smile.

Yuck.

I am a very cheap person. I start the review with this revelation because I want you to KNOW that I have only walked away from handful of the books I've purchased.

Out of the Shadows is one of them.

It reads like it was written by a high school student. The style is clumsy and uneven and the plot is clunky, creaky and trite -- all at the same time.

IF you find "It was a dark and stormy night" to be a sample of high literature...this is the one for you.

A terrible waste of a credit.

Love Kay Hooper - this narrator not-so-much

I enjoy Kay Hooper's entertaining stories. This narrator, however, was poor. Her inability to differentiate the voices of the characters oftentimes made the dialogue hard to follow. And she also did not pay any attention to what the author indicated in the prose as the mood/tone of what the character was saying. Either no inflection or the absolute wrong inflection. I will avoid this narrator in the future.

Good story, awful narrator

I liked the story, and love Kay Hooper’s Bishop series, but this one was so hard to listen to. The narrator sounded as if she had just smoked a pack of cigarettes and hadn’t had water in a week. The constant smacking and wheezing was so distracting. I’m so glad that she hasn’t narrated any more books for her. I had an extremely difficult time getting through it.

How quickly the drive goes...

when you have a great book! I've been reading Kay Hooper, (when i could find an audio book thru my local library) for years. Well, about one a year maybe? I'm so looking forward to listening to all the books i've missed thru Audible! I love the Bishop series, enough twists and turns to keep my attention. This was a great one!

Great story HORRIBLE narration

Where does Out of the Shadows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the bottom of my list.
I read the book when it first came out & I thought the audiobook would be fun. Well it's not it just sucked.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tony Harte comic relief

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She kept pausing between sentences for at least 2 usually 3 seconds. Yes I timed it. Then her male voices all sounded the same just a very bored monotone.

Any additional comments?

Like I said one of her best stories but that narrator ruined it.

The absolute worst narrator ever.

What would have made Out of the Shadows better?

The narrator reads this book like it is a children's book. Absolutely awful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kay Hooper again?

Only with a different narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was hard to judge the merits of the book itself, because the reading was so bad. I found myself fast forwarding because it was so irritating.

Horrible reader

The narrator was horrendous. I did somehow make it through, mainly because I enjoyed the book itself.

Great 3rd Book

The end while unbelievable at least keeps the series going. Didnt expect the killer to be who it turned out to be which made the suspension grow.

Great read from Kay

As usual a great blend of suspense and adult romance. Loved the idea of a psychic branch of FBI.
