Publisher's summary

Reeling from a negotiation gone wrong, FBI Special Agent April Ramos is caught off guard when a frazzled young woman shoves a crying baby into her arms, then disappears. Worry for the child's safety quickly turns to fear when a man claiming to be the girl's father abducts them at gunpoint. April puts her hostage negotiation skills to use to learn more about who she's dealing with: Jason Snyder, a fugitive accused of murder.

As Jason spins a tall tale about being framed for the killing of his business partner, April must sort through his claims to find the truth. A truth that becomes all the more evident after April overhears a conversation between Jason and the local sheriff and realizes something more sinister may be happening in their small town of Sweet Briar, Texas. But aligning herself with a known fugitive to uncover the burden of proof could cost April her job...or worse, her life and the lives of other innocent people.

Heartwarming

I liked the realness of the characters.
I was glad they showed the weaknesses in good people. Good storyline.

Great Storyline

I liked that it kept me guessing the whole time! The narrator spoke too slow so I just sped it up a little.
I listened to the whole book in 1 day, I just couldn’t stop!!

Narration is awful '

I had to skip to the final chapters to hear the ending. I try to avoid books narrated by Cynthia Farrell but this one slipped through. Her alternate voices are the worst I have ever heard and I have never been able to listen to a book she has narrated. Great reminder for me to pay better attention and not make a purchase associated with Ms Farrell.

Intrigue, romance, twists, and turns

Good story, but I am a little wary of a good guy who starts out acting like a bad guy. Appreciate the faith element. The characters don’t sound like the Texans I’ve known in my nearly 8 decades as a native Texan.

Proof Negotiated

This was a well written story that contained elements of danger, abuse of power, mystery, murder, and a little romance. It kept me guessing until the end. Cynthia Farrell did a great job narrating.

Great Story - Narration Needs Help

Loved the story with unique twists and turns. Narators who try Texas accents need more study and investigation.

I've lived in Texas 55 years and raised my kids in east Texas. We do not sound like the hillbillies on this book. I did not feel that the male love interest sounded attractive or romantic. The men often sounded just constipated and dull witted.

Brookshire grocery store is pronounced BROOK-sure and not Brook- SHIRE.

Narrator

The storyline was very good. The narrator made some of the characters sound as if they were choking or very short of breath. Keep the voice a normal reading voice. Otherwise, it was a good book.

Legal Stupidity

Special Agent April Ramos is apparently unaware that you need to report evidence in order to build a case. Exercise in stupidity, insults readers intelligence.
