So Good

I have previously listened and loved Abandoned Heart and wanted to listen to this because they are set in the same world. I love M and hope there are more agents to come. Laura is trapped in a cult, married to the leader. She believes what is done to her is for the community. She must suffer for them all. What happens when she is released from her prison? Can she learn to fly again? I love her perseverance and the progress that she makes. I really hope there is a follow up to this book because I want more. The narration is really good too so sit back and relax and enjoy.

Intense

This book was insane! When I picture a cult this is exactly what I pictured! The author did a great job describing why this poor girls life was like! The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the feelings alive! It took me a few chapters to get into this book! Overall a great book that I would highly recommend

Strength of spirit

I remember the Jamestown massacre. At that time I could not fathom how so many people could have their families commit suicide even though some members especially the children did not realize what was happening. This book is also a story of humans that believe in one man's teachings so much that he completely controls their thoughts and lives. Laya is beaten and abused but she has been taught to feel that she deserves it. Can her strength keep her alive and if so can she get back to a normal way of thinking?

The narrator let's us feel what Laya is going through. The listener feels her pain, heartbreak, fears, and strength.

I volunteered to receive this book in exchange for an honest review. This book does contain triggers so make sure you read the warnings. I found this book insightful into the lives of people so indoctrinated that they no longer think for themselves. It is a book of heartbreak but yet there is also great strength.

Amazing!!!

This story and the narrator were pure perfection! this was a first from that author and narrator and I am currently seeking out all of their other work.

The story was intense and left you feeling on edge the entire way. And damn did the narrator just suck you up with the voice of her.
Hated to see this one end.

I would not survive cult life.

The abuse in this book is really visceral but well written. The narrator is wonderful. For me the ending felt rushed and came out of nowhere. Overall I think this story is a great depiction of the resiliency of the human spirit and finding strength you didn’t think possible.

Intriguing story

I found the story intriguing and heartbreaking. It’s about a women being broken by a man she thought loved her.
The storyline is good except maybe a little abrupt ending. I also didn’t feel a connection to the characters so it lacked something to give it full score. But it’s HEA so I’m good .
There’s no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and plenty of dialogues
Some of the content in this book might be triggers for some, I found it was described in a way that it was bearable to listen to.
Don’t expect steamy love scenes.

Narrator:
Not my favourite but it’s read with passion and the pronunciation is clear.

Dark and Deceiving Cult

Laya has been severely abused physically, mentally, and emotionally, but her cult members, but most of all her husband Andros. With no where to go, no money, all personal ties cut to the outside world and brainwashed. Laya's believes her life is merely to accept the physical abuse for others that have sinned in her cult so they don't have to.

Other than the 3 men that came to save her and slept beside her, there really isn't any detailed sexual content to this story. It does mention Laya being sexually abused by her husband but doesn't go into graphic detail. Either way this story is gritty, and a hard hitting read. Unfortunately this story can and does happen in today's real world. It uncovers the mental thought process of real life situations that cam occur but are not widely discussed or known about. As ugly as a subject topic this is, this story is written with sensitivity, knowledge and education into some of the reasons why and how people are trapped in cult institutions.

My heart goes out to Laya and her strong will to survive while Andros repeatedly tried to break her. Unfortunately in the real world not everyone is given a HEA like Laya, but Skye MacKinnon does an amazing job writing this story with compassion and educating us on what happens inside the psyche of the abused.

Kyo Sija narrates this story with mature delivery. Her talent to inflict the emotion into all the characters while reading could be felt. This emotional story does have trigger warnings so those that might be sensitive to any form of abuse, I strongly recommend they consider another story.

I devoured this book!

This book was very different for me, the story was new and fresh something I've never read before, it kept me intrigued and hooked at all times.. I didn't know what to expect and the characters and the story kept surprising me. definitely was intense but I love how it kept me wondering what was going to happen next..at some parts it was hard to read as it had a lot of realistic elements but at the same time it made you want to know more about it..

great characters, great Narration by Kyo Sija, she really made me feel every emotion the characters were going through and even made the story more interesting and with a lot of depth..

this was my first book by Skye MacKinnon and I'm looking forward to know more about her work.

I love Leah’s heart!

If I could have broken into this story and killed Andros... I would have within minutes of this story beginning! He is a hatful and vicious man who preys in those who follow him blindly!

I am a fan of dark listens, and I listened to the watnings at the beginning of this.. and decided to listen. It was a difficult listen because of Leah’s heart, she is so trusting and believes that all will be well!! I love her strength!

Without spoilers... I am not as happy with the ending as I wanted to be from the beginning, but still happy. How’s that for convoluted!

Kyo Sija does a wonderful job with the narration!!! You can hear the emotion and discern the characters so well!!!

Dark

This book was such a dark and emotional story of the abuse one woman suffers at the hands of her husband after being brainwashed in a cult. It was a pretty intense story with lots of trigger warnings. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book, but I felt the ending was lacking a bit. Hopefully, these characters are mentioned in the next book but I don't really think so. Either way, I'm looking forward to listening to the other books in this series. Kyo Sija does an amazing job bringing this story to life and seamlessly changes voices and accents for the various characters.

Dark, and alluring

This is a powerful story. It is emotional, extremely intense, sadistic, but heartbreaking in parts, with no holds barred.
If you have triggers it may not be for you.
I personally found it dark but loved it just the same, could not stop listening the narrator held you and wouldn’t let go, till the end. Wow just wow.

Raw and beautiful

What a powerful book! So much raw and beautiful emotion. While it is hard to listen to the pain the MC has to suffer through her strength and determination through it all is inspiring. This isn't a traditional romance but I loved it.

dark cult story

This is the second book in this series but it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed this darker cult story. I feel like the author did a good job with development of the story and making us feel like we were there with her. This stories primarily about the female lead character. The narrator both fit the story in the character. The narrator I feel like did good job portraying her emotions. If darker cult type books you will enjoy listening to this one.

some gut wrenching moments=good story

Layla is married to the leader of a cult...you'd think that she's be treated like a princess, at least that's what she's called, but she's not. Her husband is an abusive SOB and you really want him to get just desserts...but I digress...enter 3 new cult recruits. Layla suspects that something's different with these men and hopes that they will not go along with her husband's cruelty. This story sets you on a roller coaster of emotions and leaves you gasping at the end. Worth the listen.

Broken Princess

This books has so much pain in it that you can’t help but feel it along with Laya. A story that although fiction, you know that it can and does happen in real life when involved with some cults. This is a story about strength and conviction to move beyond what has broken you. Laya is such a strong character and with the help of three amazing men she is able to overcome so much. A very good listen!
