Publisher's Summary

He seethes with raw power the first time I see him - pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He's dangerous. He's wild. He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

So, I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets, too. Then, he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it's getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night, I can't stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that's the thing about an animal in a cage - you never know when he'll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can't call for the cops. He might make you come so hard you can't think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath...

Praise for the book:

"Sexy, dark, and thrilling. I loved every second of it!" (The New York Times best-selling author Katie Reus)

"Dark, sexy, and intense, Prisoner is an emotional ride that does not let go until the end. I loved it!" (USA Today best-selling author Kristen Callihan)

WELL DONE LADIES 👏.. AN UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE STORY

Wow.. I was truly captivated as this gritty romance took me on a suspenseful rollercoaster, it swept me up in an unpredictable tale of a hardened prisoner and his bookish captive, it chilled me to the bone with not one.. but two damaged soul’s backstories and it blew me away with a beautiful romance that was initially built on fear. It was different, it had hold-your-breath action and edgy drama, it had heat and heart, it had an infamous anti-hero and a strong heroine and it had a tight brotherhood of alpha men who’d all gone through the same childhood abuse and trauma in the basement when they were just young boys.

Worth a credit? Grayson and Abby’s dual PoV love story is a bitter-sweet slow-burn from a firestorm beginning and their chemistry and dynamics were intense. It’s an emotionally gripping dark fantasies tale.. and I loved it. It’s got depth, dubious (but redeemable) conduct, good character growth and it’s a great introduction to these emotionally tortured, but loyal, very damaged brothers who’ve sworn allegiance to each other.. and sworn revenge. And yes, IMO, it’s definitely creditworthy. Great 5 star narration by Jacob Morgan whose chilling, heartwarming and sexy vibes brought Grayson’s initially intimidating ‘capture, kill, conquer, control, consume’ conflicted feelings.. and his new possessive awakened love, to life.. and Lauren Sweet’s narration was good too.

Jacob Morgan makes you believe

Sebastian York, Joe Arden, Adian Snow are so very good but Jacob Morgan is the narrator to listen to. Doing the whole alpha male thing is great. He steps it up a notch with the emotion in his voice (which we all know is just in fantasy novels) No man actually feels like Jacob Morgan makes these characters feel. And that is the point of fiction. He makes us believe these men actually have feelings... And that is what makes a great narrator... We believe the story he is telling...

Dark and dangerous

Gritty but very good.
When sweet and (seemingly) innocent Abby is required to teach a writing class at Kingman Correctional Facility she wants nothing to do with the prisoners or this writing assignment. Being inside the dark prison walls just makes her more aware of the darkness she keeps buried deep inside. She just needs to keep her head and not attract any unwanted attention. But that's not going to be possible once Greyson sets his sights on her.

Dark, intense and good

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart or squeamish. It’s dark, intense, gritty, nail biting, edge of your seat good. Great collaboration with these two authors. Jacob & Lauren did a phenomenal job narrating.

Terrible female narrator but otherwise - WOW

I accidentally got the second before this one. I realized and got the first one. Upon starting this I immediately wanted to quit. I cannot stand the female narrator's voice/tone. It's maddening. BUT I needed to power through because I already had the second. I'm glad I did because the male narrator is amazing. The interactions between the two (from his perspective) is SO great. I wasn't expecting this to be a sort of love story like it was. Intense thoughts and feelings. Raw.
I just really wish there was a different narrator.

Dark and Intense!

Prisoner is the first book in the Criminals & Captives Series, a dark romantic suspense. Grayson and Abby’s story is complex, captivating, intense, and very dark. Grayson is ruthless, and seeking for revenge. Abby is a lovely and innocent young woman. The secondary characters are intriguing. The brotherhood between these men is wonderful. Lauren Sweet and Jacob Morgan did an amazing job with the narration. Now, I can't wait to listen to the next book in the Series, Hostage, Stone's story. #AudiobookObsession

Awesome Story & Narration🎧 Dark & Intense!

I am loving Skye Warren and Annika Martin’s collaborations and the stories and characters they created. This book swept me right, the interesting storylines captivated me from start to end. The characters are complex and well developed, each have issues and are broken in their own way. Abigail Winslow, a college student is assigned to teaching a writing class in prison, it is not is not something she feels comfortable about. She is timid and likes to stay invisible. Grayson sees Abigail and an opportunity so he does what he has to do to get in into her class. I love how everything plays out in this book, there is never a dull moment and it is well plotted with drama, angst, action, thrilling suspense, some heartfelt and moving moments and some hot romance. The chemistry between Grayson and Abigail was smoking. My heart went out to both them, neither had a great childhood, Grayson’s was just heartbreaking and the reason he is on a mission for vengeance. Skye Warren and Annika Martin, thank you for this awesome book and the emotional rollercoaster ride. I hope there is more to come after “Hostage” in this amazing series.

Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet are talented narrators and voice artists, they bring the characters to life, giving each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. They do an amazing job portraying the characters, projecting their emotions as well as the drama and intensity of the story into his performance. They are an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

Grayson and Abby

I ended up listening to Hostage (Criminals & Captives book 2) before listening to Prisoner so that might have affected my opinion a little bit. I really loved Hostage and I was excited to get Prisoner but it fell a little flat to me, i'm not sure if it's because I listened to them out of order so I already knew the backstory and what would happen in the end or if the characters just weren't as good. Grayson is a group of boys who became brothers when they were held as prisoners in a basement for years together as children. They eventually escaped and have been exacting revenge and their own form of justice ever since... unfortunately it's against some powerful people who had the ability to frame Grayson for a murder he didn't actually commit. Abby is a college student teaching a writing class in the prison for a school project, she appears innocent and timid but there is a darkness and strength inside of her. The connection between them is great and the internal struggle with Grayson was heart breaking. Stone was a d-bag in this book but at least I know he completely redeems himself in the next book, and I can't wait for stories about all the brothers (fingers crossed)!

Lauren Sweet and Jacob Morgan did an amazing job with the narration! Jacob has the ability to pull of growly alpha voices and female voices with makes for an easy transition and Lauren nailed the innocent voice of Abby!

Good story, shame about LS

It was a good story with a bit of action and I really liked it. Jacob Morgan was as always great and is able to bring any character to life. Unfortunately the downfall of the book is the narration by Lauren Sweet. She sounded very false, Lauren please listen back to yourself, I’m sure you can do better.

🎧 Audiobook Obsession Reviewer

Wow this was such a great book I loved the story of Abby who is teaching in a prison to complete the stories of a number of prisoners this is when Grayson sees her and decides he can use her to break out. The rest of the story is magic how someone you are scared of becomes your everything and the person keeping you alive in all ways. I enjoyed the flow of the story it kept me gripped all the way through.

Jacob Morgan as Grayson was awesome he has such a smooth voice and it fitted so well for me..Lauren Sweet was perfect as Abigail her voice is so sweet but not sickly she brought the story to life.

I can't wait to listen to book 2 Hostage I want to know more about Stone I found him intriguing in Prisoner and glad he has a book.

Well worth a listen you will not be disappointed.xx

Annika Martin and Skye Warren = awesomely awesome

Wow, wow, wow. I have no words. This story is definitely different but I knew going in it would be good. Because Skye Warren is a great story teller. But good does not cut it. This story was so good. I loved the dialogue. I grew to really root for the characters. The narration was done really well. The story was just unexpected in such a great way.

Another Winner for Skye Warren!!!

Well, another winner for Skye Warren and first time acknowledgement of Annika Martin. The two together blew it up with "Prisoner" Book, 1.

I didn't expect anything less from Skye Warren and with her partnering up with Annika Martin made it a stronger winning team.

There were two prisoners and both main characters were in their own Hell. That's why they understood and connected so well. When it comes to the narrators; Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet, both being new to me, I think they gave "A Stellar Performance" and I definitely would like to listen to them in other books. I was just taken by what they were able to give with their storytelling, working well together.

I loved this novel and I cannot wait to listen to book 2, "Hostage." I know if book 1 blew up, Skye and Annika have even more surprises in stored for their listeners.

I recommend book 1 and I'm sure book 2 will be as rewarding! 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Don’t judge without hearing both sides.

This book had a conflict inside of me from the beginning, but as I learned more about each character that conflict was resolved and I fell in love with both characters. A teacher who teaches in a prison is taken captive by one of her students as he escapes from prison. At first I didn’t like him very much because I thought he was a criminal, but then as you learn more about him and know that he’s wrongfully in prison it definitely helped me warm up to him. The narrators did an amazing job bringing this book to life.

Ok I have to say this story really sucked me in. The beginning sorta had a Prison Break feel to it. It felt new for me. I went in blind with this story (plus its been on my tbr for years and am glad its now on audio). I think I was just expecting something different to happen with the overall arc? But Im glad things turned out they way they did by the end. What I love about Skye and Annika's writing is that it was seamlessly done.

Jacob and Lauren did a great job narrating.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Grayson & Abigail!

If you love dark romantic suspense, this book is for you. This first book I have listened to by Skye Warren and Annika Martin writing together and I would not turn it off no matter who was talking to me! I had to know what was going to happen next. Abigail is given a class of prisoners to work with and using his cunning skills uses her to help break out of jail. But it doesn't stop there. He takes her with him...and keeps her! And our story begins, with a sizzling chemistry between Abby & Grayson, a story that is so heartbreaking that it's impossible not to sympathize with and a vengeance beyond compare. It's one of those books that hooks you in and keeps you there, living with the characters and making you feel it all. I loved every minute.

The narration is impeccable by Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet. Morgan must have a little dark in him, as he is able to tune into these characters and deliver such a believable performance. Sweet plays the innocent so well, with her young voice and evolves as she learns about Grayson. It's a stunning performance.

Hauntingly Beautiful - not for the faint hearted

Holy Moly Quacamole! Although I’ve read Skye Warren before, Annika Martin is new to me. What a combustible combination they are, in this truly captivating story. Not, I might add, for the faint hearted. This story is violent, with some scenes bordering on distressing, but heck, if it’s not one of my favourite reads in a long time. Long story short. Grayson breaks out of prison with the help of his student teacher, Abigail (although it is without her knowledge). He then decides to keep her against her will, and does, I have to say, take a few liberties. This is not a moonlight and roses read, but oh my, did I fall in love with Grayson and his alpha take charge animalistic ways. Even though Abigail is his captive, she’s no pushover, and she certainly keeps Grayson on his toes. A hauntingly beautiful story, so much emotion, all coming to life perfectly on audio thanks to both Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet. Now on to book 2, Hostage, which I’m pleased to note has the same narrators. I just can’t wait.
