Publisher's Summary

A hilarious and emotional personal account of the life, times, mistakes, and crippling codependence of comedian, producer, director, actress, and writer Whitney Cummings.

After getting her start as a stand-up comic and then breaking out with the wildly successful CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls (she's the cocreator, writer, and executive producer), Whitney Cummings has seen a few things and is turning to the written word to tell us all the stuff she's too scared to say onstage.

Full of intellect, pathos, and profundity, I'm Fine...and Other Lies is, in Whitney's words, her first book, which means her last date. With her signature incendiary edge and self-deprecation, Whitney comes clean about what has shaped her into the trailblazing comic that she is today. She recounts her struggles with codependence, love addiction, workaholism, eating disorders, and vagina steaming. This intimate, no-holds-barred look at Whitney's mistakes and subsequent life lessons makes for juicy schadenfreude, no doubt. However, it's also an astute, poignant, and, most importantly, honest tale of what it means to live in today's world and Twittersphere, with all the insecurities and anxieties that come with that territory. That said, at end of the day, no matter her situation, she's fine. And other lies.

    "She's real"

I really enjoyed listening to Whitney read this and the real emotion she had.

Plus it's nice to know we're all crazy on some level.

Kind of funny, kind of whiny. Nothing very groundbreaking or original. I was not impressed.

    "Unfunny on every level"

Narcissistic immature boring blather. Sadly - the author appears intellectually and emotionally stunted. I wish I could say I laughed once - but sadly not the case.

    "Amazing"

Whitney makes a claim early on in the book that this book will “change your life” and she was right. This book talks about very powerful and insightful topics. I think there’s something everyone can relate to. It’s funny and inspiring and I loved it!

"I've been waiting for this woman to write a book!"

I've heard Whitney Cummings on podcasts and stand up talk hint and, at times, directly confront her winding road of research and self discovery.

Whitney goes all in with this book, delivering a vulnerable memoir of raw expression. She opens up about the trials most women go though, think about, and run from. She is refreshingly honest and sprinkles in enough humility and permission for you to know you're not alone in your own struggles.

Whitney occasionally takes recording off script and allows you to connect with her in that moment. There are times that she's so connected that you can hear her emotions come through in a way I've never seen on stage. While speaking up about her values and gender inequality for both men and women, Whitney also provides insight and examples of how hard those have been to change. She's also keenly aware of her potential bias in ways that are so wonderful and, she calls them out, encouraging us to also question what we *know* to be true.

If her goal was to bring honest, funny, encouraging words to women and men to be open, honest, and vulnerable to move us all forward... then she's done it. The rest is up to us to move forward and be, better. Love you, mean it.

"Exhausting to listen to was this her diary?"

I expected something different. This book is compiled chapters of long drawn out stories of rambling. Sometimes painful to listen all the way through a chapter. My description of the book is about what a hot mess she used to be and how now she seems to think she is much more enlightened now. Which she clearly is not bc some chapters she completely stigmatizes people and others she talks about how we shouldn't make people feel alone and shameful, even quoting Brene Brown. She is a comedian so yes there are some laughs and I give credit to anyone who writes a book but this was not an enjoyable journey with the author. The name of the book says it all. Big disappointment!!

"Good god this chick is annoying"

I got Audible to give me a refund on my credit for this download. The tone and speed of her voice combined with the exhaustion of realizing what it's like to live in her head is too much for any sane person to handle. This chick needs a 5150 hold stat. And I only listened to 2 hours of the book.
