Publisher's Summary

"My life, as you will read, has taken me from one cult to another. BRAVE is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life. I want to help you do the same." (Rose McGowan)

A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto - a voice for generations

Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.

In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.

Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f--k.

BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto - a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.

Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.

A MUST HEAR AUDIO BOOK

necessary. powerful. authentic. infallible. brave. May McGowan never be silenced and may generations of women hear and act and be brave. I'll do everything in the remnants of my influence to have people consume this work and dare each one not to be moved into action.

I always wondered what it was like to be Rose

I used to see her all of the time at the Underground in Seattle, and just wonder what it was like to be her. We never spoke beyond saying "Excuse me" if we passed in a tight spot. She was so beautiful and seemed so confident. Two things that I thought I was not. A couple of years later I saw her in "Doom Generation". I too, was an actress, and again (not realizing that she was the same person that I envied at the Underground) wondered what it was like to be her. "Charmed" was too mainstream for me, but again, I thought she was great , and wondered what it was like to be her in "Death proof" and "Planet Terror". Now, I have a little bit of an idea of what it is like to be her. There is so much more to her than beauty and what I perceived as confidence. I'm sorry her path has not always been worth envy. I hope she is always appreciated for her intelligence, creativity, and her bravery. If you are reading this, Rose, thank you for writing this.

Rose is a MOST brave woman!

Rose McGowan might be the bravest woman I've ever heard from. Wish I could call her friend. I have no idea how she came out of the life she has led with so much insight. She is a real freedom fighter. I stand beside her in spirit. She speaks for so many women. It is time women to be heard. I will NOT see movies that are produced by the men she names or any other man that takes on the Hollywood idea of women. She is a hero to me. I respect and love her and her work. Thank you, Rose, for writing this gut wrenching book so full of insight and knowledge. May you have the strength to carry on! You're a warrior. I want and am glad you are on my side. Much love.

This book should be required reading for every young woman

Rose McGowan articulates everything you have been thinking and feeling but were too afraid to say out loud for fear of sounding angry or being dismissed as a feminist. Her observations and thoughts are right on target. I hope many women will read this book and that it will cause some much needed change.

A revolution

Rose highlights the subtleties of how we have been conditioned to maintain a status quo...a status quo indoctrinated into us by greedy, selfish people in power and with money. She truly is an inspiration and hero in the crusade against hate, fear, and ugliness within the world. She gives you hope.

Look out world changes are coming

This book is long overdue. Every woman who reads this will see herself and the things she's been forced to endure just for being born female. I will warn you that this book is full of possible triggers for survivors of sexual assault. It's time we all stop and really look at the world and make some hard decisions about What we want for ourselves and our daughters. Rose is right, we need to stand and be brave.

Eye-Opening, Heart-Breaking, and Elevating

As soon as my sons are old enough, I'm going to have them read this book so that they can learn just how unfairly women are treated in society today, and how it is their responsibility to help create a safer world for women and other marginalized groups. The writer's life story is full of life lessons we all can learn from. Thank you, Rose, for being you! Highest Recommendation!

Raw, Strong and Brave.

I’ve always been a fan of Rose, from her movie work to her real life spunky, quick witted interviews. She has always been different, and I sopped up that kind of quirky honest, strength. She is the beautiful goddess anti-Barbie that I can relate too, the kind who makes mistakes and is human. I relish her truth. This book is a mixture of the bizarre and Mr.Toad’s wild ride. The type of honest insight through the lens of a strong little girl who learned from a small age to survive and stand up for herself and encourage others to do the same. I love this book and will read it again and again.

Wish it was longer

I was surprised how well it is written. Finished it in two days and wish it was longer. Not only very graphic language but also plenty of useful advice for younger generation.

Gripping, Harrowing, and with a Distinct Voice

Raw, honest, and hard to hear sometimes. But I really admired Rose and her story. Some might be turned off by her self-awareness and sureness, which I think would be a shame. Those seem hard-won, and her story feels like an important one.
