Told through a series of larger-than-life snapshots, a hilarious memoir in essays about love, sex, marriage, motherhood, bikinis, and loving your body, no matter what size you are from the acclaimed blogger and body image advocate.

Brittany Gibbons has been a plus size her whole life. But instead of hiding herself in the shadows of thinner women, Brittany became a wildly popular blogger and national spokesmodel—known for stripping on stage at TedX and standing in Times Square in a bikini on national television, and making skinny people everywhere uncomfortable.

Talking honestly about size and body image on her popular blog, brittanyherself.com, she has ignited a national conversation. Now in her first book, she shares hilarious and painfully true stories about her life as a weird overweight girl growing up in rural Ohio, struggling with dating and relationships, giving the middle finger to dieting, finding love with a man smaller than her, accidentally having three kids, and figuring out the secret to loving her curves and becoming a nationally recognized body image advocate. And there’s sex, lots of it!

Fat Girl Walking isn’t a diet book. It isn’t one of those former fat people memoirs about how someone battled, and won, in the fight against fat. Brittany doesn’t lose all the weight and reveal the happy, skinny girl that’s been hiding inside her. Instead, she reminds us that being chubby doesn’t mean you’ll end up alone, unhappy, or the subject of a cable medical show. What’s important is learning to love your shape. With her infectious humor and soul-baring honesty, Fat Girl Walking reveals a life full of the same heartbreak, joy, oddity, awkwardness, and wonder as anyone else’s. Just with better snacks.

Having never heard of Brittany Gibson prior to purchasing this book, I didn't know what to expect when plunging into this gem. After the first chapter I was in love. She is absolutely hilarious and very inspiring. It's comforting to hear a story of someone else who has had a "real" life, Not only dealing with body image issues but also mental illness and family issues , poverty, and a strange sense of humor. I want to be best friends with Brittany Gibson!

One of the main reasons I wanted this book was because of the magnificent narrator, Lauren Fortgang, and because of the subject of this book, and I have to confirm that my expectations have been satisfied. Also I captured some very good and interesting ideas for what my future job would like to be...

Reveling and interesting

Emjoyed this book and whole-heartedly agree with Brittany's message. The beginning seemed a little slow, with the pace picking up when she hit high school and the story finally hitting its stride when she came into stories of her adult life

Totally Relatable Author

Would you listen to Fat Girl Walking again? Why?

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I love the bopo movement and hearing Brittany's take on it. My only complaint is that I just wish she had read it. I also love when the author reads their bios type books. This narrator did a good job though.

Fun and thoughtful

Brittany made me gasp with horror, cry with sympathy, and laugh out loud because I could so relate to it all. if you have ever been fat, had issues with food, struggled with depression and anxiety, been a mom, or just in general been alive and are not a super model..... it's a must read.

fucking amazing

Any additional comments?

More than a year after "reading" this book, I think back to it almost every day. Be it different stories that were told, or just the confidence that I took away from this book, I'm so glad I read it.

Fun "read"

I loved reading this book but Lauren does a great job at narrating it! Great for long drive or winding down at the end of the day.

Brilliant

I can relate to so much of the struggle the author has gone through to get to where she us now. The book is not what I expected but it was a funny and heartfelt listen non the less.

Authentic, no holds barred autobiography.
