Publisher's summary

The battle for Venice might be over, but the war is just beginning....

Penelope and Alexis’ adventure continues in the second installment of The Magicians of Venice series.

Penelope has accepted her role as the new Archivist for the magicians, but with war brewing amongst the priests of Thevetat and the tide of magic on the rise, she’s going to have to learn her way around her new and dangerous world if she has any hope of outsmarting their enemies.

When Penelope’s friend and fellow archaeologist Tim uncovers a scroll containing a magical secret lost in the Dead Sea for 2000 years, Penelope and Alexis must travel to Israel to find him before Abaddon and Kreios get there first.

To defeat Thevetat and his followers, they’ll need to find a weapon capable of ending him for good, and as her old life collides with her new, Penelope will pay the ultimate price to keep the secrets of the magicians safe.

Switching Narrators Was The Worst!

Ugggh. I just can’t stand when a series switches narrators. In this case it was a BAD move. The original narrator was amazing!! This narrator was just awful. I wanted to stop and not listen to it but I need to get to the third book that has the original narrator back.

Sigh.. Good book, terrible narrator

Just as my title implies.. the book is great, a continuation of the exciting story began in book 1, but the narrator is terrible. Truly. I am so sad they couldn’t keep the same narrator.. it’s been a struggle to say the least to get through it.

The first book narrator was so GOOD!! This one not so much. I love the story. But not the narrative part of it.

Poor Accents, dramatically different from the first one

Story is great! However, this narrator isn't nearly as engaging as the first one. She shouldn't bother with accents or voices. she sounds bored and sarcastic

Great book, not so great narration

The second book in the series was fun and compelling, just like the first. Luckily so, as this narrator struggled. There are so many characters to which the first narrator did such an amazing job. But this one couldn’t do a single discernible accent. Or do any sort of inflection when a character was sad or even scared. Most of the Magicians sounded like they were in slow motion. Still worth a listen if you’re enjoying the story.

Worst Narrator

Worst narrator ever. Her change of voices for certain characters was disastrous. This was absolute torture. Narrator treats the text as if it were a children’s book!

DNF

Let me start off by saying I really enjoyed the first book. The Narrator switch for book two killed this series dead for me. I can get past most narrator issues people seem to have but this switch was like watching your favorite show consistently everyday then one day out of the blue every single actor gets swapped out with a new actors that don’t look anything like the characters they’re replacing and you can’t even follow the plot anymore because you’re still scratching your head trying to figure out who in the world is who all while checking over and over again if you even turned on the correct show in the first place. It’s not that this narrator is bad it’s just that the incredible accents and distinct voices each character had before is just gone and it’s so distracting that you simply can’t recognize who is who even when the author flat out tells you.
