Publisher's Summary

Some people are ordained for greatness…

Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by.

But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down.

He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance.

He also wants me with a passion that burns my body from the inside out.

To ignore him is impossible, but to give in to my desires, even for a night, would thrust me into danger I might not survive.

Can I resist the temptation?

Nice start to a new series

Holy moly, K.F. Breene does it again with the start of this new series! I was hooked from the first chapter and absolutely hated to put the book down! What an amazing story. A female lead with a lot of snark and sass takes on a demigod who reluctantly has the hots for the heroine. I laughed so hard a couple of times I was crying and getting dirty looks from my son. This isn’t an ordinary run of the meal paranormal story. The storyline is well developed, highly entertaining, & combines paranormal romance with mythology. The characters are likable and believable. Besides the main characters, I really, really liked the support characters. They were so much fun! I’m so looking forward to the next book! The narrator did a fantastic job!

My new favorite series

I am a sucker for an underdog female heroine. I especially love khristine Hvam! If you like paranormal romance novels, you will enjoy this book!

A new UF with all kinds of supes

For a first book, the author laid an excellent foundation while keeping the pace of the story fast.
Alexis was a great heroine who had a big heart but firm grasp on surviving. Her two wards Daisy and Mordecai were just as entertaining.
I’m still torn about the hero because he has his own agenda and motives but he has shown kindness, so I’m giving him room to win me over.
The narrator was just gold and the plot was really intriguing. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this story.

I love this story.

Usually the heroine is depicted as a nitwit who stupidly places themselves in danger, with low self esteem. This book did not need to make her small in order to sell the romance. I can't wait for the next one! The narrator did well with switching betweens the voices to bring the story to life. There was one instance where the voice change while the same character was speaking, this threw me off for a beat. but overall great performance.

Great but different

I enjoyed this paranormal take on our society in general. It depicts so many of the stupid behaviors that people exhibit daily. When it comes down to it. All people are the same yet different and unique. We are all born, we all bleed, we all die. yet prejudice is so rampant. This story is fictional yet so close to what the truth in our world is. We all occupy one planet. If we blow up one part it will impact the whole.

No HEA? Seriously?

First off, the narrator is amazing!

However... (SPOILER ALERT)
.
.
.
.
The heroine was snarky and stubborn, which I typically like. But this one just went on too long. Sometimes she was the adult in the relationship with her wards and sometimes not (which was cool at times and amazingly dysfunctional at others).

I could have overlooked the things I didn’t enjoy if there had been an HEA. The hero and heroine DON’T END UP TOGETHER. There’s no sex of any kind, not even ‘closed door’.

In the end, the heroine agrees to work for the hero, and the book is over.

Very enjoyable "read"

Really loved the humor and the relationship between the female and the wards. Plot was engaging and am interested in learning more about the demigod and his 6.

horribly boring

the book wasn't bad but the storyline is boring. it really doesn't get good until the last 10 chapters or so. The narrator was great. but the book was boring. it really wasn't as good as I was hoping for considering the previous reviews. I found it annoying that the two children had more common Sense than the lead in this story. and they constantly had to remind her to use hers.

I really love the story, but the accents...

I have to admit, I have gotten used to terrible Irish accents in popular media, but I can’t believe the narrator didn’t know how to pronounce “Galway”. That hurt.

Also Samwise Gamgee. In fact, more so, as the LotR references are a running joke in the book so this should have been a word the narrator was familiar with.

I just feel that a narrator should look things like this up if they’re not sure...

Anyway! Love this book muchly, so much so that I got the audiobook for whispersync so I could be somewhat productive and not lose my day curled up and reading. Definite recommend :)

Ok story; questionable narration.

Were I not on holiday, I probably wouldn't have finished this. The story itself was ok but the narrators "Irish" accents boardered on offensive. As such, my issues with the characters themselves were probably amplified by the accents, though the scenes in the bar were certainly a tad naff regardless.

Great story, terrible Irish (?) accent. <br />

The concept and the story is really good but the narrator's accent for the character sounds like a drunken slur

surprisingly entertaining

Came across the audible version of this accidentally and took a chance based on reviews, and glad I did. A unique and entertaining storyline, that while embedded in magic is still very human in quality. The female lead has a great spunky character and the kids characters just as much (teenage girl is hysterical). Male lead is almost background noise, necessary but quite central. Narrator does a fantastic job, differentiates characters well, and does a great job with lead and kids. it clearly is a part 1 book, that does annoy me as no clear end with the investment, but looking forward to next book.
