Publisher's summary

Having inexplicably nabbed the duke of Kesgrave, 26-year-old spinster Beatrice Hyde-Clare is determined to marry him at once, and no amount of hand-wringing from anxious family members, worried friends, and well-meaning acquaintances will convince her to delay.

Except, maybe, she is a little swayed by her uncle’s efforts to make amends for treating her with cold indifference during her childhood. And her aunt’s concern about the growing scandal around her unfortunate habit of unmasking murderers in the middle of society events isn’t entirely unfounded.

And then, there’s the truly unfathomable appearance on her doorstep of the former Miss Brougham, the spiteful heiress whose cruel taunts derailed Bea’s social career. Remarkably, the society matron has a mystery to solve and knows Bea is the only person who can help her.

A dead grandfather, a missing jewel, a cryptic letter, an opportunity to condescend to her archnemesis - the case seems simple enough. Yet, somehow, it all goes terribly, horribly wrong.

Another fun story with great characters

This is a great series, I've really enjoyed all the books. The heroine is very interesting and different from most books and the other characters are entertaining and really add to the story.

Absolutely Delightful!

I am a dedicated Audible listener and this is the first series in several years that I have enjoyed so thoroughly. The interplay between Bea and her Lord are infectious and highly entertaining. I'm sad there is only one more book. The narrator is also excellent, especially with the men's voices.

Love, love, love this series!

I've listened to every single book in this series. As book five, the story of Bea and her Duke continues with a tad more romance, a bit more pedant, and a mystery that took me a minute to solve. There was also a very romantic and yet mirthful ending sequence.

This book picks up right where book four ends, only the morning after. I honestly think you need to have listened to all the books in this series to fully appreciate this book (there are a lot of references to past cases.) I loved the interaction between Bea and the Duke. This is the first mystery where Bea starts out with the Duke's help (although funnily enough, he takes a backseat when most of the questioning happens.)

The narration is easily the best part about this book and this series. Smith delivers like no other!

With the way this book ended, there has to be a book six. Please let there be a book six!!

OH MY HEART!!

I was genuinely startled with the whit and humor tied up in this cozy mystery series. I have never before felt so attached to a story and character as I do Bea and the Duke. I will be recommending this series to everyone I know!

meah

I have enjoyed most of Lynn Messina's books. but this one was just too... wordy. there was too much talk that went on and on and not enough story. I'm disappointed.

Brilliant!

Such wit and dry humor makes this series amazing!! Lynn is truly a master and Jill relays her words to perfection!

I have to say though I am so tired of people disparaging Bea’s looks I want to strangle every one of them! But the Duke makes the heart patter with his love for her!

Fun mystery and again I never know until the end the true culprit

Brilliant and Bravo!!!

BEST NARRATOR

Got a little lost during the theater section, but I was distracted which certainly did not help. Yet, the story continued in typical Messina style with The Duke taking control of the wedding, to Bea's delight surely. Off to the next one!! LOVE THESE STORIES.
