a very interesting story!

This was a very fun listen about a haunted house and the families who inhabited it! It was interesting to hear how it all played out! the narration was a bit cheesy but the story made up for it. the characters were well written and the haunting was fun to watch unfold!

The narration is BAD

I somewhere read someone comparing this narration to someone trying to scare people at a campfire ghost story telling, and unfortunately I have to agree... I really wanted to enjoy the story but the narrator’s tone going up and down was too distracting... pity...

Haunted house

I absolutely loved the storyline and the characters. I love how each family tale was laid out. The only thing that would have made it a solid 5+ was a new narrator. He was not right for a horror book I felt like I was back in summer camp. I received this audio book for free at my request. I am leaving my honest review voluntarily of my own volition.

Not bad

The story is good. The narrator is not. He's overdramatic; he's definitely trying to sound like he's telling this story around a campfire in the middle of nowhere in the hopes of scaring his audience. And there's noise in the background, quite a bit of audible swallowing, rustling of paper, etc.

Erica Maydale is a widow. Her husband has just died, and of course, the police think she had something to do with it. Then she dies. This is basically where the story starts.

Throughout the story several families move into the house. Each family encounters strange things, strange feelings, ghostly figures. Each family ends up being driven out of the home, some violently, some on their own.

The story is slow moving; things don't really seem to progress a lot... it didn't seem that any new information was discovered, for the reader, with each subsequent family. Neither was there a lot of change in the families attitude... until the end, no one seemed to be very interested in finding out a lot about the spirits. Some did a bit of research before leaving the house. As well, I didn't get a very distinct passage of time. The murder could have occurred five years before the ending of the book, or 50 years before. Again, the only real hints that a decent amount of time passed was with the last family and the research into the house and inhabitants, etc. That's a simple fix, actually. The author breaks the book into sections for each family. So, say the Walkers. Rather than just saying the Walkers at the start of the section, say the Walkers, 1978, or whatever, and use those sections as a time frame.

Overall, I enjoyed the book.

what's the point?

I have been given this book free of charge to review. So far I'm at chapter 9, the narrator is awful, he is reading the story like a ghost story around a camp fire and his female and children's voices are awful. that's really bad because most the characters are female AND children. As to the story, in 9 chapters I have yet to see a point, kill people, new family, kill people, new family why? there's no story here at all. I am going to move on to other books. I might revisit this book with another attempt to finish it if I can later for now I'm beyond burned out of the lack of either a good story or a decent narration.
