Publisher's summary

Shapeshifters exist. Monsters are real. And no good deed goes unpunished.

Nursing student Ellie St. James didn’t mean to get involved in a war between rival gangs of shifters, but saving the life of a local mob boss’s child has dragged her into one. When Ellie’s life is threatened because of her involvement, she’s forced to go on the run, protected by Carter Ballis, head of security for the mobster’s family, and a lethal shifter himself.

Blood, fire, and warfare weren’t part of Ellie’s plans, but even if she survives, her life will never be the same. The world is more than she knew, and she’s seen too much. People capable of morphing into deadly creatures from legends and folklore around the globe are coming for her. The cost of staying alive means trusting Carter to defend her, and he’s every bit as frightening as the creatures that want her dead....

wow Screenshot

This was a great book. The story moved along with no dragging. Narrator was perfect enough so that the book it self shined through. I can not wait for the next book.

Unique

I love shifter genres. This is a first for this author, and Sarah Ashwood did not disappoint! The storyline and the characters are unique in who/why they shift, and their background of how they became shifters even more so. I already have book 2 and am ready to start it immediately!!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and Melissa K Benson is a talented narrator. She's got a great voice, and her characters are believable. I especially loved Ellie. Her voice is perfectly performed (I especially enjoyed her 'attitude').
I'll let you know how book 2 is when I'm finished!

ashes

really enjoyed the storyline for this book and some of the characters in it. It has a promising idea that had me very intrigued. My only complaint was a certain character was just not to my taste and I couldn't like her, at all. Otherwise I enjoyed the book

Really Good Shifter Story

This was my first experience with Sarah Ashwood's work, and I enjoyed it. This book started out great, it slowed down in the middle, and then it ended on a cliffhanger; therefore, it engendered a lot of mixed emotions for me. I loved the author's use of Greek mythology creatures for the shifter characters; however, the female human protagonist was at times strong, but at other times rather feeble as a character. The story had plenty of action and even some humor. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Melissa Kay Benson's narration was entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great Series Starter

The story line and character work were well written and entertaining. I will say that the main character was not my favorite, but that's just my personal preference. The narrator did a fantastic job breathing life into this book and made this a pleasant listen.

I received a copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
