Another Great Book by Albany

As someone who loves RH, it was nice to read this wonderful Ménage book. It is a slow burn with a cliffhanger (as per norm) that leaves you intrigued and pondering as to what will happen in book two.

This school is full of sups and Quinn is the only human. She is kind and only wants to see the good in everyone. She is determined to make a difference in the world and with the students that come to her.

Griffin and Evan are the men she is interested in; and they more than interested in her. I love the interaction between these three. Especially with Griffin. He is rough and gruff with a soft and gooey inside.

The mystery and the personalities of these three characters keeps this book interesting, while also having the extra intrigue in trying to figure out who is messing with Quinn.

It was a pleasant read with a thickening plot at a smooth medium pace. Go check it out, and enjoy this fantastic book.

Lame Mystery but it has potential

There is a good chance that I am CRAZY. I do acknowledge that possibility. Reading this book has given me another example to provide to my psychologist if I ever actually go to one. On one shoulder I have a sweet mini version of my myself sayig, "This book was good. Give it 3 stars". On the other shoulder is a sassier version of me with her eyebrow raised saying, "Drop a 1-star on this crap!"

Well, the issue is that once again there is a love Triangle. Once again, there is a vampire and were-animal love interest. Once again, the male characters fall so deeply in love with this human character for no reason at all. There is nothing special about Quinn. These men are decades older, so why does Quinn catch their attention after all this time? She is just a regular person. Makes no sense.

Quinn also gets a job that she has no idea how to do. You apply for a Supernatural academy but you have NO real knowledge of supernaturals. NO experience being a guidance counselor to regular humans so how are you qualified for this position? The issue with this flaw is that throughout the book she is faced with things that are pretty obvious.

And the big blow for this one is the mystery plot. Wow. Just wow. This should have been a sub-plot that added depth to the story. Something more important should have been happening while this was just another thing making it difficult. Instead we get this Raman Noodle plot that is only acceptable when you have NOTHING else or as a side item when you've burned the macaroni.

So sassy me wins. I liked the idea of a book like this ( Grown-up book about a supernatural school with REAL ADULT characters) but the author just seemed not to want it as much as me and my mini
Selves. Now maybe the author will make it up in the next book. I'm feeling an Epic love scene in the making and I'm all for it. Hopefully she wont be afraid to give us what we are obviously expecting now.

A positive for this book was the narration. This was an excellent format for two narrators. Each narrator had a set of characters assigned to them. This means the sound of the characters' voice didnt change when the POV changed.

2 Stars. Very unmotivated plot but love story has potential if it goes in the grown up direction instead of a Twilight remake. Fingers crossed.

My new favorite author!

Albany Walker has quickly become one of my new favorite authors and I practically devour her books as quickly as I can get my hands on them. Havenfall Harbor included! The narrators were perfect and I’m not sure what they call this style of narration (where the male and female narrators each read all their characters spoken lines instead of the female narrator trying to do male voices and the male narrator trying to do female voices depending on whose perspective the chapter is in) but it makes the audio books so much more enjoyable! All of that being said I really felt like this book just stopped mid story. It didn’t feel like a cliff hanger but more like the end of the book was just left off. That being said it’s still a five star book in my opinion but if you hate cliff hangers or need at least some resolution at the end of a book then I would wait until more books in this series come out before you listen to or read it. I can’t wait for book two and I will definitely be buying it as soon as it’s out!

Decent start

This was a decent start to a new series. I love how the main character was Human (so far, who knows what’s to come) no, half witch, no half shifter, no chosen one- just plain human with a kind heart. The narrators were good and gave the book life. The story was very slow burn, and there wasn’t that much action for me so I didn’t rate it five stars. I rate a book 5 stars that gives me, action, romance, comedy, and tears. When you can elicit multiple emotions from me. This had a slow burn romance and comedy. Not much action or tears. I really cannot wait to see what book 2 holds.

3 stars

The first half of the book was interesting. The second half was boring. I did like the characters. However, it lacked detail with the school and students. Her book Friends with Monsters was a much better book.

No Just No

I just finished both this novel and the second one, and it was just a no. Sometimes good narration can save a so-so story but unfortunately the narrators couldn't save this. First, the story is in the romance genre when in reality it feels like the romance was an afterthought to the "mystery" plot. I'm ok with a slow burn romance, but honestly they don't even kiss until the last hour or two of this book. I understand a lot of times that the first book in a series is designed to set up the series, but the story seems slow for no apparent reason. Its not like the world building was that great. It seems like a lot of filler.

This book seems more like a bad take on a grown up Nancy Drew novel written in a paranormal world. The mystery revolves around pranks in this book. PRANKS! Really? I would understand if it was a fluffy side plot and the romance was front and center, but it wasn't. The prank mystery was the main story line and the romance secondary.

Also, It felt like the author couldn't stick to a story line for the romance and would just keep trying on a different tropes to see what would work and none did. First, its an enemies to lovers, next a love triangle, then true mates insta-love. Just pick one!!

There is, also, the fact that the book doesn't really end. Its more like a long book was cut into pieces and this is part one. I wish it had ended with a cliff hanger I can do that, but this was just like the author went "Ok I have hit my page limit so I'll stop and pick up with a new book."

I was hoping that the second book would save this one, but sadly its a no. It may be slightly better than this (2 out of 5), but if you are reading this, I wouldn't waste the time or credits.

Captivating! I didn't ever want to stop!

Havenfall Harbor is book 1 in this duet, and I am so glad I finally took it off my TBR and devoured it!

Havenfall Harbor is a home and school for all ages of supernatural beings who are either orphaned or wayward and sent there by mandate or by parents. Until Quinn showed up, the school was human free.

Quinn was hired to bridge the gap between humans and the supes. While this was her dream for a long time, and her sole focus of study at school, some of the students and staff weren't as receptive to her being there, and someone was making it known.

It started with what seemed like an innocent prank, and then it escalated into a bigger threat. Now Quinn's safety was being compromised, and she needed to be protected.

From the moment she walked on campus, Griffin knew he wanted Quinn. He was expecting "Quinn" to be a man, but when it turned out she was not, and was extremely attractive, he was OK with being wrong.

Evan and Griffin had been friends for years and years. Evan was with Griffin through his awful relationship and always trusted each other. Griffin regards Evan as a brother because of their bond together. But Even has his eye on Quinn, and Griffin is being overly possessive. And Quinn was just trying to skate under the radar and not make waves at her new school.

One thing I love about Walker's work is how rich her characters are. I become engrossed in the story from page one, and I am completely whisked away into the novel setting.

She is the Queen of a good slow burn, and I feel helpless caught under this spell, not sure if I want to break free or not! You can feel the angst and tension between the characters. I just want to reach into the book and smush their faces together and scream JUST KISS ALREADY! 😂 So impatient, am I! But just as beautiful is ache of a dissonant chord, so too are our characters in this story. And unfortunately, because this book ends on a little cliffy, and we are still swirling in slow burn mode, that satisfaction of the chord resolution will just have to wait until book 2!! Ugh!

Really good story

From the moment Quine stepped in to Havenfall Harber her live would never be the same, mysterious events taking place that will draw you in to the supernatural world, while have you guessing what will happen between Quine, Griffin and Evan and the sexual energy through out the story. I found Brooke Daniels and Brandon Williams did a really great job especially the voice for Griffin that I found gruff but incredibly sexy.

Amazing Narration and entertaining half book

Beautifully narrated story involving two paranormal men with actual backgrounds and a human female (who has her own life and career and an actual personality). Great that they swap the narrators mid chapter when the other characters speak, and I wish more audiobooks would do this. I will probably try to track down more audiobooks narrated by Brooke Daniels, Brandon Williams.

The main problem I have with this... it really feels like they split the book in two in order to get twice as many credits from their readers. The story stops without a real 'cliffhanger' moment, just like a chapter break. So plan to immediately use another credit when this one is over.

Also: if you liked this type of story and writing style, I'd recommend checking out The Complete Evelyn Maynard Trilogy. Very similar writing and narrating styles.

Enjoyable school duet about shifters and vampires

A few new elements about shifters and vampires, learning from the point of view of Quinn who goes to work at a school as the only human there.

Enjoyed the developing relationships and the narrators are excellent. Well worth a listen.

enjoyable

overall I have enjoyed the story and the characters plus the narration is great but... if you're looking for a menage in this book it's a very very slow burn and I am really hoping the lead characters start to hot things up in the second book. I do recommend this though as it's a very good story.

Wow couldn't put it down

As another reviewer said it had the feel of Kim Harrison but also dannika dark and Riley storm. So if you liked those authors you will love this. MC is human girl with 2 alpha supes. Written well and narration is good. Not a YA but more adult book without being overly descriptive of the intimate parts but still enough. Has left me wanting more, without being left on a cliff hanger.

So good

When Quinn arrived at Havenfall Harbor things started off strange and only got worse for as time went on. What with someone trying to kill her and her chemistry with Evan and Griffin the excitement was real I didn’t want to stop listening until I’d finished in one sitting. Brooke Daniels and Brandon Williams narrated perfectly and I’m eagerly awaiting book 2.

enjoyable story

Thoroughly enjoyed this story, I was hoping that the ending would have been a bit more of a cliffhanger rather Michelle going missing and that was it... but keen to get into book two... I couldn't really stop listening to the story until my earbuds died I was into it from the beginning, narrators are fantastic.

Engaging with good Narration

A pretty solid story, that was made more enjoyable by great narration and character voices. Typical triangle which sometimes feels a bit cliche but it doesn’t go over the top with sexual descriptions. Would love to see Albany write about a strong female who doesn’t need rescuing as her story lines a pretty good and engaging. Just sometimes get bored with the main always being rescued by a strong man. In saying that I will continue listening to the series. It’s engaging and enjoyable.

Excellent narration

Nothing can ruin an audible book more than bad narrators. Not a problem with this one. A superb job by both Brooke and Brandon.

The story is good, but nothing unusual. There is enough of everything (action, comedy, romance) to keep it interesting. Thankfully, no angst (teenager love it, but it bores me to tears). I assume more intrigue and probably family conflicts will occur in the next book. This was basically just getting everything set up.

Great Listen

This was a pretty awesome book with amazing narration. When listening to an audiobook, I always wondered why they didn't make some of the characters mechanical when the scene was of them on the phone or loudspeaker (you'll understand what I mean when you listen to it), but this book does that and makes it even more awesome than it already was just from that small act. It also holds duet narration where the male characters are spoken by the male narrator and vice versa for the female characters. Just a warning before you read (or listen to) this book: it does end on a cliffhanger. The story mainly focuses on how life could be if the supernatural were real and how it may operate. The plot mainly surrounds a school of supernaturals, where the female protagonist gets to work as a human liaison. Obviously, the whole one human in a school of other supes doesn't go very well. There are no wars or anything with major action, it is mainly a straightforward school romance in the perspective of the adults/teachers and staff. I loved listening to this audiobook and would definitely recommend it to those who have read the blurb and think they will like it. Enjoy!
